Replit released an integration via SSH with Cursor IDE 2 days ago. They have a KZbin tutorial up. I've only been learning to program for about 6 months (self taught with AI) but I've learned a few critical things - first is do not do the design in the work-engine AI; whether that's Replit, Open Engineer, Claude Deb etc... do it in a custom GPT 4o OR, better yet, o1 Preview. Then, input the design into your tool of choice, ensuring you have that piece downpat. It'll save you a tonne of API credits and stop the model getting confused due to lack of context, or specific restrictions like you need to use WSL2 Ubuntu local host due to a module that's critical. You essentially need a design doc. Ask it to explain, don't just trust it. They make mistakes and misunderstand us frequently. Save your work in multiple iterations!

This is an AMAZING hack. Thank you so much for sharing this. I am going to have to try this in my workflow!

short answer...no i hit the usage limits on my paid plan very quickly. i also end up in ridiculous loops where it forgets previous instructions and constantly end up going in circles having to rollback. have alot better experience on cursor , which forces me to learn things as i go along and have a better understanding of my app. its ok for very simple apps like you have demonstrated, but once it grows in complexity it totally falls apart, and cant follow explicit instructions. the code ide inside replit is also pretty shite

I feel like it would be good for quick demo for VCs but production applications need to be built from the ground up

Definitely agree with this. It should be getting better and better from here but it is a great starting point for beginners!

Unfortunately Replit Agent is not accessable through the free option. If I tried every AI builder / platform that I had to pay to trial I would be broke. Don't see the point in these platforms only having a pay to use for what you are effectively trialling. A limited time full feature free trial would be a much better offer than a free tier that allows you to do virtually nothing. I know its $15 bucks for access but there are that moanu of these platforms popping up that it is just impractical to pay every time and find it does not do what you need.

Just curious how much you think you are learning from it compared to say Claude or GPT-01 where you can explicitly define that you want to learn as you continue to code or develop? Essentially, allowing you to have a tutor not just somebody doing your homework for you?
@BrockMesarich2 ай бұрын
I think if you really want to learn how to code, Claude or GPT o1 are great options. I haven't personally tried to learn how to code with either of those however. I just love the fact that I can build an MVP of a SaaS inside of Replit Agent and see what it builds in real time!

How would a non-developer know if it will end developer's careers? lol

Whether or not I need a developer or not to create what I’m trying to build. I think a non technical perspective is pretty interesting

For the reality: Im building a smart AI Generator for different Use Cases. On the money side: i spend 50 dollars already to make it my way. Code is at alpha version level. The agent is sometimes very dumb. You need 5 repeatings on the same problem sometimes and be very specific what he needs to check. Cost factor: 25 Cent per usage so 1,25 average per problem. . I dont care about this amount. A developer would be much more expensive. I just say: Dont led yourself get blinded by this no code shit. If you really have no glue about software architecture, data base logic or know how to define styling requirements, you will pay a lot more money. This tools are made for developers with a glue to leverage their speed.

I guess i did say it was basically free. In my opinion I would consider $25/month as basically free compared to having to pay a full stack developer
@tulijunior2 ай бұрын
@@BrockMesarich I get your point, but its just not free. Thats a fact. Waaaaaaay cheaper than a full stack developer, but not free. I think the people who watch this videos are not exactly the people who hire full developers
