Replying to Hammer 4k questions

Here is a video replying to some great comments I got on my previous Hammer 4k video, these are just my own personal opnions

Great news but some of us have got every release on all formats,just can't afford it anymore,I watch my boy rays,I have every Hammer horror on blu ray now and shall not double double double dip, Have a projector and 10ft screen amazing quality so she'll remain with what I have,

Yeah Andy I know what you mean 😱 Hammer have probably been the most released on all formats of all the British horror so we have really spent some cash on them Andy 🤯🤯 that set up sounds amazing Andy!! Can't blame you for sticking where you are bud 🤩🤩👍👍

Yeah, I heard Hammer had bought Silver Salt Restoration, I was quite surprised as what happens when they have restored all their own Hammer films? I hope the buyout and change of ownership does not affect Silver Salt's day to day restorations which are usually excellent. Time will tell. The other problem is that many of Hammer's better known films were co-productions as Hammer needed to partner up to get the money from bigger studios like Columbia (now owned by Sony) and Warner who own the rights and almost certainly the original film elements. My other two top Hammer wants are Frankenstein Must be Destroyed and Frankenstein and the Monster from Hell which is my second favourite Hammer film after Vampire Circus. I think 8k is dead in the water, there is no content and boutiques are complaining about how expensive 4k restorations are so how much would a full 8k restoration cost? And I think the benefits between 4k and 8k would be minimal anyway.

I'm sure what ever the lable putting out 4Ks they already know there's a massive fan base for all that is hammer therefore the restorations and quality will be well thought out beforehand. I also think that people working on the upcoming 4K releases are also dedicated to hammer horror. So fingers crossed and everyone will be the winners. Hammer always made their films with the best set designs and colour. Never a poor quality amongst them. Cheers once again this has been a good series of videos from you.

When you see the bond films the early ones ,at the end titles it says 4k scanned ,so why arnt the pre Daniel Craig been released if they ready scanned on 4k ?

Regarding THE CURSE OF FRANKENSTEIN, Warner Archive in the US have done new 4k restorations on both an open matte 1:37 to 1 and the British 1:66 to 1 and US 1:85 to 1 ratio releases of this film and the results were spectacular, particularly in the color grading. They released a 2-disc blu-ray in the US. Hopefully these 4K masters will be used to create or standardize any newer restorations being undertaken on this seminal Hammer film in their horror cycle. Warner Archive also released a new scan of the BFI 2007 restoration of DRACULA, with enhanced contrast and color grading. Fortunately, these blu-rays are all-region so can be viewed and compared with their counterparts in the UK.

I know a lot of people rate that version of Curse of Frankenstein very highly mate 🤩🤩👍👍 I didn't know that it was a 4k master so that's very good to know because that's the hard work done so that means it should be an easy upgrade that'll look fabulous on 4k 🤩🤩👍👍 also didn't know that Warner had tweaked Dracula so that's also great to hear, I really hope they "special edition" these 2 ones 🤩🤩👍👍 thanks for the great info 🤩🤩👍👍

Just bought 88 films 2024 blu version of Island Of Terror and was disappointed as the Scream Factory 2017 blu version was much better.

I haven't seen the Scream Factory one mate, did that 1 have any extras on, was disappointed to see no extras on the 88 films one 😵‍💫🤩👍👍

I nearly spat my coffee out when you read my comment 😂 Thank you for the response. Hammer was my first introduction to horror, growing up in the 80s and 90s. My mum always told me how my dad used to love watching Hammer horrors every Friday night on tv. So, I started doing the same from around the age of 7 or 8. Dr. Jekyll and Sister Hyde was always my personal favourite.

The second sight releases of ‘The Mummy’ and ‘Frankenstein Monster from Hell’ were absolutely perfect. I’d really like something like that for the actual boxset and physical look of it. What a brilliant time to be a Hammer fan. Also have you seen the recent Doctor Jekyll by Hammer?

Yeah Hudson, really hoped Second Sight would do more of those Hammer sets!! I don't they will now.... but might do in 4k 😱🤩🤞🤞 it is Hudson 😁😁👏👏 I have seen the new Dr Jekyll, it's a pretty decent film mate 🤩🤩👍👍

I always remember "Fear On Friday" which was a Tyne Tees thing in the 80's just before they ran a Hammer Horror. I will definitely be collecting all the 4k Hammer films.

Hi John, I hope it's not just Studio Canal issuing 4 k's in the future. They own some good titles like Prince Of Darkness etc. but also some very average films. I'd like to see 4K box sets like the fabulous Indicator ones - new art, comprehensive booklets updated and new extras. My top 10 4K Hammer wish list would be...Dracula (as you said), The Brides Of Dracula, The Devil Rides Out, The Revenge Of Frankenstein, The Mummy, Vampire Circus, Hands Of The Ripper, Plague Of The Zombies, Twins Of Evil & The Hound Of the Baskervilles. I'll start saving up now :)

Exciting times - Studio Canal have brought out some of the best hammer blurays. The company that had produced greatest number of Hammer Blu-rays is Indicator (six large box sets plus other specials such as when dinosaurs ruled the earth and Robin Hood collection )they have released a number of 4Ks and are likely to be primary contenders. Good to see that you are keeping the Hammer light burning.

I agree Gothic 🙂🙂👍👍 Studio Canal are amazing with their restorations in general 😃😃👏👏 yes Indicator have great Hammer sets out, unfortunately I didn't pick any up at the time 🤐🤐 but probably got most of them on standard releases 👍 if they treat the Hammer 4ks like they have done with the Jean Rollin stuff then that would be incredible mate 🤞🤞😁😁 exciting times ahead 🤔🙂👍

I just don't want it to be so vibrant that it makes my eyes bleed 😂😂 either way though I am so hyped about this announcement. I'm just trying not to get too excited and build it up in my mind and end up being disappointed with the finished product. But it's difficult my friend. Very difficult. 😂😂😂

Good video John & thanks for the shout out. I think 8k will likely come to streaming in the future & I agree 4k will likely be the last disc format. I think IMAX cinemas are in 8k. 8k tvs are still getting made but aren't realy taking off. Have a good weekend John.

Great video John!! My biggest concern is how good the 4k will compare to the blu ray. Some of the blu rays are really good. Scars of Dracula is one of those films that people either love or hate, but I feel like more people are liking it. It'll be curious to see if there are more extras in it. If Studio Canal is in charge, that's a good thing. I got their version of Basic Instinct and Creepshow and the movies look amazing. I just like the fact that Hammer Horror is getting some love. The 4k news and we're also getting a NECA Christopher Lee Dracula and a Peter Cushing Van Helsing to go with it. I've seen the figures and they look amazing! Love the channel!!

As you say John we have some REALLY good blu rays out already so for me if they can't top them then keep them at blu, I'm hoping the ones they do will look a noticeable upgrade 🤞🤞 Studio Canal are one of the best in the business for putting out amazing 4ks 🤩🤩👏👏 about time Hammer got the 4k treatment John 👍👍those figures sound excellent mate!!
