Everyone talks about "Sixteen Candles" or "St Elmo's Fire" or "The Breakfast Club" for 1980s movies. This is the best comedy of that decade on lots of levels.

Here's what I know about the Iggy Pop theme--- Steve Jones of The Sex Pistols is on guitar Nigel Harrison of Blondie is on bass and Clem Burke of Blondie is on the drums. Sounds like a great band to me!
@DaveAnchovies4 жыл бұрын
Thought the Pistols Paul Cook was on drums. He and Jones were the Professionals. Iggys best post Stooges song imo. Saw Zander Schloss when he was playing with the Weirdos and as he walked by I uttered "I wasn't singing, guy!" He turned with a big smile. He wasn't really acting...pretty sure he was just being himself. Greatest movie/soundtrack

Just think- the reason we got this instrumental masterpiece is because Iggy Pop got so wasted the night before- he didn't show up for the recording session... Well-later dudes- I gotta go look for the joke with a microscope!
@robelicit6 жыл бұрын
W0ah, in all these years, I never heard that story.. is it from an Alex Cox lecture/film? I saw Iggy & the Stooges down here in Nola, back in 1984.. Was the only time I ever caught them live & they delivered.. Crowd was jacked up, like a good version of the Blues Brothers Rawhide scene,, cups & bottles flying around, various levels of mayhem. Everyone seemed to be thinking "we'll never see Iggy & these guys again." New Orleans was still the home of jazz & funk, so it felt like a bit of time travel whenever a good punk or new wave gig came to town. Was about a year later when New Order played a show here. Raves didn't exist yet but people were already dropping x then staying up all night for dance /techno, new wave & industrial bands... a sort of post punk scene, every genre were mixed. A dose of Iggy was like a jump back in time to early heydays of punk that fit into the scene even tho punk & new wave were fading out fast back in England. Nola has always been on its own sort of disjointed time machine, which is a good thing.

before i get my anorak, apparently the story behind the instrumental version is that mr pop was given 2 days to write & record the main theme song. the band consisted of steve cook from the sex pistols & clem burke & nigel harrison from blondie. as per usual, mr pop hadn't yet bothered to compose any lyrics, plus he was all coked up, so the band layed down some instrumental versions on the first day (which you have here) until mr pop could get his act together the next day and record the vocals.

There should be Oscars for Main Titles SURELY?? The Good The Bad and The Ugly, The Taking of Pelhan 123 ( 1974), Mars Attacks, Repo Man, Goodfellas, Dirty Harry, Bullitt, and so on
