It’s so weird, I listened to the soundtrack, and it seems more like a concept album. And all the tracks are rearranged for some reason. It’s still not something I’m particularly into, but I do respect that it was able to be made at all with that kind of sound.

Dude. Just. Embrace. The. Suck. I get it, you're some semi-high-brow critic, yeah? But it has mf GILES from Buffy! And, at the time, all we had of his delicious singing voice was a short clip of him performing "Behind Blue Eyes". We did not come to this movie for its cinematic quality. We came because we wanted to see Anthony Stewart Head singing. I will make an addendum, however. Within the run of Buffy, he does sing a bit more in the musical episode, but his true talents are wasted.

You can’t deny that Chase the Morning is catchy as hell. But yeah, I expected Repo to be much darker. The humor and comedy were too cheesy and it made me cringe. I wish they gave more backstory to some of the characters, especially Meg who was actually voiced by the goddess of song Sarah Brightman (there should have been way more songs with her, they even cut one gorgeous song out of the movie titled Crucifixus which doesn’t make fucking sense if they were having trouble making the movie longer 😪) but yeah this movie/opera had so much potential. I would have never guessed the budget was $8.5 million. What a waste 😩

This movie is fucking amazing. Some of the greatest artists in the music industry worked on this movie. This is an OPERA. You don't understand the difference between a musical, and an opera. In an OPERA, they sing and-- as you pointed out without having any idea of what you're speaking-- talk ON BEAT. The clues and hints aren't even supposed to be for us; they're supposed to be for Shilo! The comic scenes allow us some backstory, but in an OPERA, they're going to SING about it. This simply isn't the same the same type of critique that can apply to a movie. It's an opera, FIRST.

This is my oldest review, so I didn't say things as concisely as I would now. But what I'm referring to is the comic interludes, the exposition, then the song about exposition is such a waste of time. If it was a sung through opera, there wouldn't be dialogue, unless it was, as you put it, talking on beat. However, the talking on beat I was referring to in the review was SUPPOSED to be singing, not dialogue, so that point is moot. They should've just had them sing.

I remember being sucked into the hype around the initial release in 2008 and then when I actually saw it I had pretty much the same issues you mentioned throughout this and am both baffled and frustrated with the fact that the sexual predator responsible for this garbage still has a career and made more shitty films with casting above its league.

Personally my favorite movie ever is Repo. It’s the Rocky Horror of this era. They combined Saw and Rocky Horror, and it’s the best that a rock opera of the basis could have. Also the fact that Paris Hilton was a main character is iconic. I wish she would do a return to the musical horror movie! Also, i just watched this movie a week and a half ago, and i keep hearing “things you see in the graveyard” in my head for the last week and a half😂

One thing that should be taken into consideration, when comparing the budget of a film to the budget of a film that was made decades before, is the rate of inflation. Because 1968 money is not equivalent to 2008 money. But to be fair, I did look into this and the only films you mentioned that actually had a bigger budget than Repo were Soul Man and Fright Night. The rest of it still speaks truth.

8.5 MILLION DOLLARS!!! The Raid 1 and 2 COMBINED only cost 5.6! I tried to like this movie, to no avail. Peer Pressure. I had a good friend who bought a house and filled it with a bunch of people he was going to art school with. A group of "filmmakers" with top of the line gear, including a visual effects dude who lived in the garage with his monster PC, who ALWAYS had an excuse NOT TO MAKE A MOVIE. I couldn't even get them motivated to make a short. Those are the kinds of pretentious assholes who worship this movie.

Eh I still enjoyed it but I'm biased because I first watched it when I was in high school when a friend showed me it back in 2009 and I was still going through my uh.. somewhat "angst" phase lol. But in all seriousness, I think I was too captivated by the art direction from the sets, character designs, and gloomier aesthetic it was going for in terms of color and lighting/shadowing. I'm a fan of the darker aesthetic so the film's creative direction was right up my alley even though I will admit that the Repoman's design freaked men out haha. I have a bad aversion to hazmat type suits, I find them so creepy looking and the Repoman's look just stuck in my head to where I couldn't sleep the day I watched it lol. Aside from that, I also liked some of the songs even if the lyrics weren't great. And finally I just found the concept very interesting, living in a world that experienced an organ failure epidemic and how Geneco took advantage of it and how corrupt the company is but they're too affluent to be stopped. It was a scary concept to me, someone who hadn't been exposed to other dystopian future type media at the time. In short, I can admit the film is bad but I still have a fondness for it and it's really just a guilty pleasure lol.

God help me I just watched this and am now here to commiserate with somebody about how blah the experience was. It seems to me that your (and anybody's) strongest possible demerit for this film is that the music just kind of sucks. The lyrics almost feel improvised on the spot. I thought this film was a very strange mix of high effort (sets, costumes, casting, art design) and few fucks given (music, music production, singing, lyrics, storytelling, cinematography). In regard of this weird tone it was kind of worth watching, though I tuned out about 50 minutes in and put it on a second monitor.

I'm not going to argue about whether you should or shouldn't like it but you have an awful lot of details wrong. There was no affair. The uber suggestion is funny but not an option in the movie. I cant even remember all the things you said but you got a lot of things weirdly wrong. It's ok, I get it, you don't like it, that's cool. Maybe affair was the wrong choice of word, and the Uber thing was a joke. This was my first video review from over two years ago, and I’m not super proud of it. But I’m not sure I got a lot of things wrong? I stand by it’s just an obnoxious rip off of Blade Runner, BioShock, and a lot of things Terrence really liked, similar to Eli Roth. Basically, I made this originally because I was living in a place at the time where I was surrounded by Repo fans who are members of the shadow cast, trying to tell me I was an idiot for still liking the Rocky Horror Picture Show, when Repo surpassed it, which I disagreed with. I got tired of telling them why I didn’t like it, so I tried to make a jokey video, explaining why I didn’t. I ended up liking making videos, and I kept going, and, hopefully, I’ve been getting better at it.
