I tought the trade offered from Detroit was basicly one for one Kasper for Cozens? With the way Kasper is playing has a detroit fan i am not sure if that would make sense now... i feel like we need to wait and see what we have in Kasper he is exceeding our expectations right now.

@@simontremblay69 Kasper is a 20 year old kid that's starting to gain confidence and it shows. His ceiling is high. And I like how he is also a gritty forward that can score, but significantly younger, no deal to me. We aren't chasing a Cup this year, but with in next 5 I think once all these kids develop just a little more. Plus we still have a couple to move up, like ASP

I don't see the appeal. As a wings fan I feel like he would be useless here especially moving into next season and especially after that. I don't see how he is better than JT Compher. When Danielson is ready there is no point to it. Why let go of any assets for somebody who would merely take up space. I think the wings are done with that. Too much money. 7 mill is crazy. for what he will end up as a 3rd line center? I don't see this happening in Detroit. He is a cap anchor. Think you hate the Copp contract ... wait till you see this. lol

Are you saying Danielson is ready to play second line centre in the NHL?? Infer Cozens is a bottom 6 player making second line money but Danielson is probably 3 or 4 years away from being an everyday 2nd line centre.

I agree. It would be a short term fix with a big contract and term left. Blocking danielson or other players moving into the roster like mazur. A center would have to go the other way as well copp, compher, veleno, and Larkin to make room. So who goes likely veleno? I don’t see the upside after this season for the trade. Just my opinion.

Wings fan, I like the thought of cozens on our roster. Really dislike the price tag that comes with mediocre production not to mention the asking price for him. Could be he is just in need of a change of scenery to become more productive, but that’s a big risk to take when you are already holding copp and compher contracts.

As a RW fan since the Dead Things era. I have seen a lot players and teams, some good and some bad. It depends what Buffalo wants veteran current players & nearly ready prospects or prospects & picks to rebuild. If it the former, then either Coop or Compher [C], Holl [RD], Cross Hanas [C] & Antti Tuomisto [RD] plus #3 pick for Couzens & Byram. Buffalo gets two current NHL players, two players who are almost ready, but don’t have places in Detroit but could be good for someone else, plus a pick. Cozens has more possible upside than Copp or Compher. Bryam would be an upgrade would an upgrade to the d-corps.

Cozens is a good hockey player, but not for the price. Half of our forwards have experience playing center. They're all good players, but we already have overpaid 3Cs (e.g., Copp, Compher): do we really want another expensive player who may very well not be a 2C? I know Cozens has upside: and he'd better, for what he's making. And who knows, maybe he'd thrive in Big Mac's system? But our guys are starting blossom because they weren't rushed to the big club: their value is going UP. Let's see what we have in guys like Kasper, Danielson, etc. With that said, there is a Saber we want: Byram. If Byram is willing to sign an extension in DET, that would solve a huge problem. Imagine: Seider, Edvinsson, ASP, Byram, and the ever-improving Johansson as our core for the next MANY years. I'd pay for Byram. The problem is a first rounder needs to be part of the package, and apparently BUF doesn't want picks. That makes it harder, because we should try and hold on to the guys we've spent years developing.

I dont see any upside in this. Cozens has 10 goals and 16 assists on the season. Meanwhile, Copps got 10 goals and 12 assists. So why are we wanting to take on any even worse contract in Cozens? Yeah I get he had 31 goals, ONE season but thats looking more and more like ah fluke.

Can give Holl and Husso and a mid draft pick and I'd be happy. (One can dream) Cozens would be a good fit I think though. He's a more playoff built player that can score big points. He would make us better depending what the cost is.

Wings should 100% trade Compher + a 1st round pick (not this years) for him. If Buffalo wants Danielson I'd consider it but not 1st round pick. Danielson I just don't see having 30 goal potential, where as Cozens has put up a 30 goal season. I'd rather gamble on Cozens with proven production than the hope of Danielson who looks like he may need another season in GR. Obviously this comes down to how urgent buffalo is to trade him

I think Calgary will have an easier time... Buffalo is in the same division with the Wings and might not want one of their own going there helping keep them out.. so the wings will probably have to over pay to get him being a division rival.. MTL would fall into this too.

@@gregorybiestek3431 That's always the rub when it comes to trades.. who does the other team want and will they offer.. I'm not going to try to pretend what Kevin Adams is thinking.. he's shown he's a pretty good talent evaluator.. but I do know that in most sports including hockey.. unless you are sucking the basement and don't expect to leave it for a while.. you try to avoid sending guys within your own division. The Wings are one of the teams that they have to compete with for the playoff spot and the sabres are close.. I think they need a certain kind of vet to show the kids how it's done. Kane probalby would have been a good one.. They need one to show them how to be consistant.. That's their achilles heal at this point. They have the talent.. They just lose focus.. and let games get away from them.

Things have been going well for the Wings since Christmas, but that was largely driven by an unsustainable PP success rate for the first 7 game streak, and great goaltending for the second. My concern is that the 5 on 5 numbers are still bad. Another offensive threat could help keep things going when goaltending and PP come down to earth.

Probably in the minority, but as a Buffalo fan I personally hope he stays in Buffalo. He hasn't been the same player since getting rocked by Hathaway, but he still has a ton of potential. Needs to be in the right mindset, and I think the past year or so has taken a toll on him. I'd rather keep him, he's a core part of the group and a quiet leader. His points aren't what they can potentially be, but his physicality has dramatically increased. Only a matter of time until he puts it together. He's 23. In a couple of years from now, I think he's going to turn into one of the better 2nd line centers in the league, with a blend of physicality, scoring touch, leadership, increasingly getting better with faceoffs, and a refined defensive play (which has also been off this season). Would rather Buffalo hang onto him and he stays part of the eventual solution. Has as much, if not more heart than any other Sabre. But hey, if teams want to overpay, there's no untouchable piece. Sabres said they aren't shopping him, and I think that's true. But, as with Mittelstadt, if a team wants to give us better value, gotta listen to it.

@komirules in theory, not a terrible value piece for piece...I just like Cozens more than most and would still probably say no to that because I personally believe Cozens is way better than what he's performing at. They'd also be selling him at the lowest value he's been at since coming into the league. Just not worth it and would rather hang onto him and hope he fills the roll that he is capable of in Buffalo.

As a Flames fan, it makes sense because up until the trade for Frost, they don't have any legit Centre prospects coming up in the next couple of years. Kardi and Backlund both in there late 30's, and our farm team has 3rd/4th line NHL centers at best. A young 6'3'' right hand shot NHL Centre doesn't come up very often, so I say go for it. As long as they don't give up Wolf, Zary, Coronato and Parekh should be the only untouchables in my mind.
