According to the International Energy Agency (IEA) World Energy Outlook Report, the US will become the world's largest oil producer by 2020, surpassing Saudi Arabia and Russia.
The report also foresees the US being nearly energy self-sufficient by 2035. Much of the increased production will hail from increased shale oil production made possible by new technologies and improvement in shale oil technology.
Such technologies are currently being utilized on Alaska's prolific North Slope to explore for that region's abundant, untapped oil resources.
