It was rumored that Boras contract demand was to make Mets pay extra if Pete opted out (ie-force Mets to pay partly for the first year after Alonso opts out and moves to another team). That is the assymetric contract Cohen referred to. Hopefully that condition gets removed which puts Pete back on the roster. A short term Mets contract serves everyone's best interests. Boras has been incredibly greedy. I would love to see Alonso drop him as agent and come back to the Mets on a team friendly deal.

Def in on flaherty we need another SP. but not more than 3 years. But 3 years with an opt out after 2 this way we get him playing hard for two years. Not come in and perform well and for us helping restart him then we lose him for our efforts and giving him the chance. We need to start either making opt outs after second year or a club option for the second year so these players give us something for helping fix them and not let the next team take all the benefit of a good SP.

The bottom line is the Mets are objectively not good enough as it is. So they need him AND another #2-3 starting pitcher. All you nerds mining a multi billionaires bank account to make sure he doesn’t overspend by $15 million for the future franchise leader in homeruns really need to get a life. If you want the Mets to succeed, they’re better with Pete. It’s simple and objective. By gaining Soto and losing Pete, you gain the difference between them. Last year that was 7 HR 21 RBI. We weren’t those numbers away from one player from winning a world series. By adding Pete back you net gain all of Soto’s 41 HR 109 RBI. As it stands right now Mark Vientos is your cleanup hitter and Marte, McNeil, Alvarez, Winker and a rookie platoon at 3rd is your opening day lineup. That’s an 82 win team at best. Maybe a 79 win team. If the Mets had signed Santander or Bregman, this wouldn’t be an issue. It’s not about Pete. It’s about what makes the Mets better. You need those RBIs or Soto is going to walk 175 times. And some of you nerds are more focused on punishing Pete for rejecting the 2023 offer or hiring Boras than you are winning in 2025. It’s bizarre.
