My first was spider mites. I totally freaked out- literally in tears. I put on one of your videos from before you moved. It was so reassuring to hear you say “don’t flip out, take a deep breath- this is part of the hobby”. I still check my plants. I try to shower them every few weeks. My daughter says- 20:10 do other people have to come home dealing with plants in their shower???? lol. My monstera alone takes up the whole tub! My 13 year old granddaughter says you are her favorite plantuber! ❤🌿

Planty parents go thru such crazy things and see so many crazy critters! 😂 See ya next video! Enjoyed this one as always! ❤

For the rot, if you haven’t already put it in hydrogen peroxide and water and treat it that way. I did that for many weeks alternating each week between that and water and mycho for my Monstera and Anthurium Pendens and they’re now fine.

I can relate to the pest issues as well as everyone else here commenting lol! I have had luck getting rid of mealies with diatomaceous earth. Works for scale too. I was going to buy some End All at the greenhouse the other day and the lady there said to save my money and use the diatomaceous earth which I already had. Win! Just bought a Tiger Paw Begonia. Very cute! I’m not so much into Anthuriums mainly because I don’t have the room but they are very beautiful.

How do you manage the DE getting everywhere? 🙈 I’ve tried it before but it made the top of the pots a mess. Did you use it on the leaves too or around the plants or just in the pots? I’ve been cleaning and spraying for days and still have some plants left to treat but I am over them 😵💫😫
@colleenreimer36396 күн бұрын
@ I tried to put it mainly where I see the pests like on the stems and in the notches where the leaves come out. Not so much on the leaves. I think using a makeup brush would make it a bit neater. I used a couple of Qtips but next time I’ll use a small eyeshadow brush. Leave it on for a couple of weeks to catch the next ones that hatch. Supposed to slice them up hooray!!

I have fungus gnats or thrips. I have no idea what they are actually but they keep flying so i just stick those yellow sticky’s and saw them stick to that. Now i don’t really see them flying. Then i do have spring tails or something similar in my fluval and in pon reservoirs n moss pole. I just left them lol because i see no damage. I have like 8 alocasia plants but luckily never had spidermite problems.

Fungus gnats. First time I had thrips was over 10 years ago. They were on the blooms of an African violet I had bought. Threw away the blooms and no more thrips. Second time I had thrips was 2 years ago and I lost about 8 plants. I didn't realize how bad thrip damages were. Last December at Home Depot was the first time I had ever seen mealy bugs. It was on a lot of the hoyas. I rarely see hoyas at the Home Depots in my area in Canada. Saw on Reddit that the Home Depots here had some. Didn't end up getting any though😕.

Ladybugs are your friend when it comes to mealies. I have a lineras that had mealies and couldn't get rid of them. I got some ladybugs and they took care of the mealies. The only thing with ladybugs is they are midly poisonous to cats if they eat them. They would have to eat a lot of them to really harm the cats. I put a net up between my living area and the sunroom where I had mealies and didn't have any issues with the ladybugs and the cat.
@plantsbymelissa6 күн бұрын
Hmm that’s a thought 🤔 I haven’t tried them before actually since I had heard about them being toxic but the net thing could work 😃 I’m willing to try anything at this point lol. do you have a good resource for lady bugs?
@zandrawostel58686 күн бұрын
@@plantsbymelissa I bought them 2x from Nature's Good Guys and I haven't had any issues with them. I have had problems with the mites not coming in alive but the lady bugs seem to do well in shipping.
@greeneyes.19786 күн бұрын
Maybe the mean mealy bugs ate the beneficial bugs😂 I heard those little creatures are horrendous to get off plants.
@lisaanglim95885 күн бұрын
They are hard to get rid of. They pop up on random plants that are never near another plant that had mealies.

Hi Melissa! You have beautiful plants! My favorites are the Alocasia. I wanted to know if you keep a journal for when you fertilize? When fertilizer say that they’re good for three months or nine months, etc. how do you keep track of that?
@jacquelinedaniels876 күн бұрын
I am not even going to state this out loud-let me make this very very very clear I’m not saying this so the universe can hear-but I have had a mealie outbreak from hell-winter in buffalo, but I’ve never had thrips. I’m now in Texas so I’m sure w this ungodly rainforest climate(we had a 9” stick bug in our apartment during beryl) I’ll have everything x1000 in no time. I’m hoping my cabinets keep the plants safe from this hellscape I now live in lol

One of my first plants had spider mites. I didn’t know how to treat them or had anything to treat them with. It was some sort of palm. With several plants in a one gallon container. I eventually threw it away as one plant after the other died and I cut them off. I haven’t had spider mites again. I’ve got mealies that show up at random like you said. I’ve not had thrips yet. Not that I’ve noticed. Cross my fingers 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻
