Hi Bjorn, are you ever planning to bare root the tree? Maybe only one half, leaving the other for the subsequent repotting? Or is the tree past such a state, and will the inner root ball stay undisturbed indefinitely?
@h.b.14212 жыл бұрын
I don't think it will be neccessary to bareroot this tree ever again. This tree is 52 years old, grown from seed, quite beautifully styled and i cannot imagine that the previous owner/-s didn't keep the nebari in mind over all those years. I would also only bareroot a tree if the nebari isn't yet in the desired state and you need to sort out the roots a bit. But do it only if there really is no other way possible and also only repot if the tree is potbound and not because you heard that bonsai need to be repotted every year.

It is best to not completely bareroot conifers. It's very stressful for them. Barerooting is mainly done with deciduous trees.
@h.b.14212 жыл бұрын
@@indusingh2013 hello, of course you are right. Without mycelia conifers and most deciduous trees as well (although with different types of mycelia) won't thrive and maybe even die over time. But you can either use a bit of old potting soil or buy some specific mycelia for your tree and add it to the soil mix. Will it still be stressful to bareroot a tree? Yes, it definitly will be, but less so than without any mycelia and if it needs to be done at all then only do it once or maybe even twice in the first few years of the lifetime of the tree to straighten out the nebari. After that it will be next to impossible to alter the nebari anyways. I know it will set back a tree for a few years, so care must be taken before you even start thinking about doing it.
