It’s me again catching up on several of your older videos. Have you ever tried using wide meshed screen, similar to window screening, to put in the bottom of the pot, especially at the development stage of tree in video - instead of constantly cutting small pieces, Thais not secured in the hole, could move. I tried it several times - it works! AND it sort of root prunes, again at this stage of development.

Hi Jeff, sssst.. You are not supposed to talk about this in public. ;). I think we all do this with rough stock. I know I do. It is just not worth going through all the small clipped pieces.

I'm usually not a big fan of those tiny, fat trees, but this one genuinely looks quite nice, in a few years time with more branching it will be a really good looking tree! Are trident maples hardy enough in the Netherlands, or how do you overwinter them?
@GrowingBonsai2 жыл бұрын
Hi Reinhold, thank you. Trident maples are indeed hardy enough. The roots are a little sensitive to frost, but normally I keep them in a shaded, wind-free spot on the ground. If temps drop below say -10c I move things into a sheltered shed, which stays a bit warmer. That is rare though.
@reinholdbeck70972 жыл бұрын
@@GrowingBonsai Oh, thank you for that infos! I always hesitated to get a trident maple because I don't have a frost-free shelter, but when you say that they are mostly hardy in the Netherlands, I guess they might work here in Austria as well!
@GrowingBonsai2 жыл бұрын
Hi Reinhold, Austria is a bit colder than the Netherlands (I am acturally just inside the German borders!). So if you get permanent frost, I would be a little carefull. Do you have some local people that can advice you how they keep the species?

@@GrowingBonsai Also dann kannst du Deutsch?
