After watching your videos on Catasetum culture, I ordered a Mo. Jumbo World SVO X Catasetum spitzii Yellow Sunlight. I never realized how beautiful these flowers are, as I've always grown the Catts, Phals, Paphs, etc. I was sure to tell Fred to thank you for prompting my purchase. Thanks for your videos. 😄

You must do an update on them when they're mature. Would love to see it!

I thought the best time to repot catasetum was only when the new growth had roots. 😁 I have a lot to repot now then
@vasohoward7904 жыл бұрын
So the roots are very advanced when you repot. Also I think the two large bulbs you are repotting are no longer connected, probably could be divided?

Have you ever tried growing catasetinae types in coconut coir? I'd like to get some of these, but I don't want to grow them in sphag because sphagnum, I don't think is truly sustainable, so I try to avoid using it whenever I can. As far as my understanding goes, sphag is used for these because they like lots of water and food when in active growth and sphag has those properties. Coir holds lots of water and nutrients as well (it's my absolutely most favorite medium for phals). It's got to be rinsed from the high salts it initially contains, but, after that it's great. Plus it's so easy to remove from roots, so repotting with it is a breeze. On top of that, it's just a byproduct, so I absolutely love it. If you'd be willing to try it out, I'll send you some that already boiled, rinsed, and had perlite added.

Thank you for this video. I learned quite a lot. Oh, and I really liked the music towards the end while you were potting up. If you can tell me who it is, it would be appreciated? There’s no mention of the music in the description box.

Hello! I have a young Catasetum orchid and I replanted it, one leaf started to turn yellow, but I noticed that it has two growths. The question is, should I water it until the growths develop or not?

Hello, I have a queztion. I'm quite confused. I have three types of catacetums and all three still have their leaves and two of them are putting out new growths. We're getting closer to winter here, shouldn't they be getting ready to to go into dormancy? 1. Catasetum Tenebrosum- showing two new growths 2. Zna. Adelade Meadows "Eli"-has 1 new growth 3. Cycnodes "Jumbo Puff"- after further examination- is also putting out a new growth. Are my Catasetums confused or what?

Question for ya, Catasetum queen, I just ordered another catasetum and it arrived in the mail in weird shape. It was clearly placed in moist moss for transport, but its new growth has no roots and the new growth is very small. I don't want to start watering it because I know it will rot. Advice? I pulled it out of the pot and saw that the moss was just draped around the outside, so it is not established in that moss. I tossed it. I am thinking of cutting the dead roots, popping it in some sphagnum and leaving it alone until the new growth starts to get bigger and grows roots. What do you think? Thanks! ~Anna
@HolyCityOrchids9 жыл бұрын
annaiskicking Catasetum Queen! I love that! haha. Keep it in dry sphagnum. I usually prop mine up with a bamboo skewer and secure it in place. Once the roots get long enough you can mist it. Gradually increase the water as the plant gets bigger. Sounds like you have a good plan sorted out!
@annaisgrowing9 жыл бұрын
Cool thanks. The thing that was confusing was that the roots were wet and it made it harder to tell which were alive and dead. But I trimmed as best I could and stuck it in some dry moss. we shall see! :)

Hey Brittany, is it okay for me to repot my catasetum after its new growth is about 5inches high. I've started to water it slightly just to get it started but its in a small plastic pot and at the edge of the pot so no more room. What do you think?
@HolyCityOrchids9 жыл бұрын
Fern Crafts Being very careful not to break any roots, it would be completely fine to repot :)
