Well I'm really glad to hear someone who knows about the platycerium genus of ferns especially the 18 naturally occuring species. I've been obsessed with these plants since the 70's growing up in Boca Raton FL. I was amazed how I would find Tillandsia native air plants high in tree canopies growing without soil. The orchids and bromeliads, many were invasive had set my path for life. I currently have all 17 species as I lost my large P. Grande. Winter rain got it to wet even with fans to dry but I'll get another right? My P. Superbum is now 40 yrs.old. I have 7 p.elephetotis and they are one of the hardest to keep moist, not saturated, it's a fine line.I hope you make another video. Everything you said about care, light, water, etc was exactly right. Most sites are consistently giving wrong info. I saw a master gardener on video and she mounted the stag with the bud facing the plaque.any way I'm gonna send you some pics, I live in fla so I've gotta pull some stags under carport to keep from getting soaked.thanks for knowing your information.

We couldn’t see how the zip tie was attached to the plant. Just around it or through the root system?

Yes, the zip ties are carefully threaded through the older shield fronts close to the bud but not so close to the bud that it damages it. It takes a few tries to get it right but you have to find the sweet spot. You definitely don't want to damage the growth bud or the fragile roots
