You can try using a biological approach. Bacillus Subtilis should be able to fight and kill Phytophthora. (and other infections, such as powdery mildew, anthracnose?), not sure about Pythium, though. Several other "Lactic Acid Bacterias" should be similarly beneficial "probiotics". You can consider doing a Lactic Acid Bacteria culture (LAB) which should give you dozens of varieties of beneficial bacterias that might be effective at fighting the diseases, and will be effective at just boosting the overall health of the plants. No guarantees tho... A very good resource for researching these "biofungicides" is the website "indogulfbioag". They seem to have information that I can't even find in scientific journals. This confuses me, but it does seem that they very much did their research...

it feels colder here because of the humidity , it allows for the cold to creep into our "bones "faster because of the moisture on our skin as well as the plants. 30f in Colorado is night and day vs 30f here with the humidity. when i moved from Miami to Orlando in 2010 it got down to 17f one day and the 20s for about 5 days it was wild. the 1980s was also a very cold time for the south. hasn't been that consistently cold in ages. im going on about 8 months of collecting orchids this will be my first winter so im taking in as much info as far as fall preperation.

Hi Tristan, Thanks for another great video. I was recently given a large division of Guarianthe Bowringiana Var. Coerulea. It came potted in what I would call a terrestrial mix. Whilst the orchid is looking healthy enough and has recently flowered, I would like to change the potting media. I have both course bark and also Tree Fern Media at hand. How do you think in your extensive experience this would go? Would either media set the plant back? Thanks in advance. Helen from Sydney Australia

Glad to hear that people and families are safe. So many people came to the aid of others for the preparation/post clean up. are You are so correct but saying natural disasters such as Hurricane Milton and the many tornadoes that affected Florida and beyond prioritize things. I live in Lake Worth, FL; just west of our neighborhood roughly 17 miles lies the City of Wellington, Acerage, and Loxahatchee area. As reported by news stations multiple tornadoes touched down destroying property, uprooted trees, flipped vehicles, and left several home inhabitable with so many displaced families. Our communities are so fortunate that there were no fatalities. We owe our gratitude to firefighters who transported trauma and injured people. Emergency crews were deployed where downed power lines were moved to get technical crews to remove people from crushed vehicles. A huge shout out the the clean up crews and FPL linemen who worked long shifts to restore power to those who lost electricity. While many families and businesses are ramping up for a busy holiday season, let's hope for a quiet remainder of 2024. Respectfully,

So glad to hear that your home & family are ok, and while I can see how tired you are, your efforts getting the orchids under cover really looks like it paid off - most all of your collection looks in good shape. I’m so glad to hear this, and hear that Palmers is pulling together so well. I’m lucky we don’t get hurricanes in my part of Virginia, and I really feel bad for you and everyone in Florida. Instead, we’ve got cold winters to deal with and I’ve become well-practiced in doing a yearly shuffle to move my whole collection outside for summer and then back inside before winter ice, snows and power outages hit our part of the country…I’ve gotten the shuffle down to a fairly organized routine in order to enjoy my orchid passion in a place outside the tropics. Usually I’m jealous of the great orchid growing environment you have in Florida, but not during hurricane season and especially this year. I hope the rest of the year is much easier for you. ❤️

Nice to see you and hear that you fared well and that Palmers is up and going. You will rebuild your collection!!! I know what it feels like. I lost most of my orchids several years ago in a freeze. I have rebuilt my collection but still miss the rare ones that are hard to find and/ or gotten too expensive for my pocket.

thank you! you're nearly the only one on YT who is using chemicals for treatment, unlike the rest, who is using just water, or, best case scenario - hydrogen peroxide or cinnamon 😂😂 have you tried using physan 20 for this purpose? I have several phalaenopsis orchids suspected to have rhizoctonia root rot, and it turns out the fungisides you suggested are not shipped to California where I am located :( I do have physan 20 on the shelf though, I used it previously to treat fusariosis, but didn't seem to help much
