I really enjoyed this entire video. I have an extremely root bound ficus that I had no idea how to replant without killing it. Thanks so much for sharing.You're so lucky to be able to have those outside. They're beautiful!

Hi Kathleen thanks so much for watching. Ficus are really hardy once they have a bit of age. You can be quite brutal with root pruning if they are very root bound. I have repotted these ficus 4 times over many years. The more you can prune their roots when repotting the better they will be. Good luck with repotting yours.

Wow the new pots are big. Good job and funny moments. I can see at the end you both worked so hard.

Wow very pot bound. I can hear the plants say thank you and Breathe a big sigh of relief

Thanks for watching. Yes the plants were exhausted in those pots. My latest video includes an update on these ficus plants and you can see how much happier they look now settled in.

Informative! Thanks! I'm planning on re-potting my large ficus and moving it indoors. 🤞🏼🤞🏼

Good Luck. Ficus will often shed leaves after being moved or repotted. Once they get established in their new environment they are happy they will flourish and look fantastic.

What’s amazing to me is how well your ficus is doing outdoors I always thought it was a finicky indoor plant
@LeanneInAdelaide5 жыл бұрын
The Ficus benjamina is pretty tough and can grow all year outside. We don't have frosts here that probably helps. It does get very hot here up to 46C or 115F and provided it gets enough water they can get through that OK.

I loved those beautiful flower pots

Thankyou Michelle. The pots are huge and it probably doesn't show that well in the video how big they are. In a few months time the ficus will have grown a lot and should look fantastic.

Hey Leanne, How are your Ficus doing now? Really weighing up whether or not to put mind in ground or pots. Assume these are Ficus Hillii flash?
@LeanneInAdelaide23 күн бұрын
The ficus are still doing OK. They are Ficus Benjamina (weeping fig). Pretty much any ficus planted in the ground will develop extremely aggressive roots. If you are thinking of planting in the ground it must be a long way from your house or any structure as the roots can crack sewerage pipes, foundations concrete and so on.

I'm looking forward to the NEXT replanting : ))

Thanks for your comment musicalmarion. We struggled with the enormous weight of the root balls. If we ever did another repotting I think we would need to call in the professionals LOL.

How big are the new pots ? 20 inches ?
@joshslackslack81152 жыл бұрын
I know this video is 3 years old but I would take one and make a bonsai tree they are some nice trees just to big of planting pots I've got a few in some flat large planting pots 4 inches deep and 3 feet long and 2 feet across
@LeanneInAdelaide2 жыл бұрын
That is a great idea as ficus would make great bonsai specimens. Unfortunately too late now as these are all enormous now and looking much better than in this video. I keep cutting them back to control the height and width so in a way I am making a giant bonsai lol.

Careful breathing in coir products, I got a very bad chest infection after breathing in.

I absolutely agree we do need to be very careful. A woman my age died of Legionnaires disease in Australia recently from using potting mix. Since then I now have a mask on and gloves when doing any repotting making up any potting mix etc.

I am pretty sure the new pots were 85 litres. We bought the pots quite a few years ago so it is hard to remember exactly. Thanks for watching.

Yes it was brutal, and a mess but it had to happen. Thankyou so much for watching. By the way all of these ficus plants are still doing well a few years later.

If it was my tree I would have turned it into a bonsai...
@LeanneInAdelaide3 жыл бұрын
LOL... on second thoughts maybe that actually sounds like a good idea. Some very serious root pruning and branch loping would be needed. The result a year later could be spectacular.

How to make a six foot ficus smaller?
@LeanneInAdelaide3 жыл бұрын
LOL. Yes you are right that was what happened in the video. Sorry re my late reply as your comment did not appear in my youtube studio until today. Sometimes a little bit of pain is worth it for some great gains (eventually). They did recover from this and were around half to 1 metre taller a year on from this and lot more more bushy. Mature ficus plants respond really well to pruning of roots, foliage (or both).

@@LeanneInAdelaide thank you. Someone gave me a ficus that has outgrown it’s pot. 🙏🏼😊👍🏼
