My day is made complete, when I can slow down and commune with my trees. The gift of bonsai is soul expanding. Thank you.

Agreed. Just wish I knew what I was doing well enough to know that the trees I am caretaker of, will become as beautiful as those I see here most of the time, some day long after I am gone. I do know, that because I have never BOUGHT a styled, trained bonsai, ( or have never actually seen one in person ) but try to CREATE bonsai, that I am only the caretaker for trees that may someday, become a bonsai for someone later.

Thank you so much for your bonsai videos. They have been wonderful for my recuperation. I had Covid in January and pneumonia in February and for the last two or three months I’ve had very little energy. I’m not able to work in my garden which makes me sad and anxious. Your videos are not boring, you have a very calming affect and I appreciate watching you work with and respect for plants. I’ve been gardening for 30 years and have just begun clipping a few circular and gumdrop shaped boxwoods. Maybe I’ll try a simple bonsai next spring because of you.

Your always so honest with giving us tips and knowledge about ways to do bonsai that doesn’t have to be expensive or go along with all the typical “bonsai rules” some put forth. Good afternoon Peter. Sometimes in transplants we find cases like this in which a good initial work has not been done on the roots or it has been left too long in the same pot. And you have to be drastic, drop your zen and pick up the ax. Could I have picked up an electric saber saw? Well yes, but we know that Peter likes to use the most common and easiest tools to find at home.

I was a fly on the wall during a conversation of tall pots and drainage. One guy was a physicist type and the other, like me, a veritable ape with scissors. Needless to say, it left me with questions. Are there any tall cascades getting repotted this season? Your take on subjects is more accessible for my lay-arborist ears.
@Blaydrnnnr3 жыл бұрын
Wow. I wouldnt have thought that you could cut so much root, or taken so much off without stressing this old of a tree. I am always so very careful not to take so much soil off. Very well done.
@acheronexile Жыл бұрын
Master, I have meditated long and hard on your various lessons and come to a conclusion about wisteria. In my dads old college books, it basically noted that wisteria responds especially well to the idea of root prunings and that many older vines can be forced to flower by using a shovel some distance from the vine to sever many of its roots. Perhaps some times they should be over potted for a brief while, partially for the health of the vine, but also to give root mass that can be pruned, not only for better presentation, but also in the hopes of forcing an old vine to send forth a great bounty of flowers in the following year. After all, if the main growth tip is controlled by a stress hormone, perhaps a different one is responsible for roots.

It's not my place to judge someone with extensive bonsai experience but I do think that when you hew with an axe, you should chop at an angle from both left and right so you can remove chips - that allows you to go deeper on the subsequent swings. Trying to cut straight through like with a saw or lopper is not efficient with an axe.
