White pines always make good looking bonsai and yours is quickly getting there. Regarding fertilizer, I don't like the fertilizer pellet idea personally as it's hard to judge. Have you ever tried making your own fertilizer?

I think I will replace this 'stuff' as I don't know what it is or how old it is. I can replace it with new Naruko then I know what's going on. I need to feed this tree well through this season.

Nice work on a lovely tree. you have done a great job especially to overcome the mishap in the apex. Sorry but i can't help with any info on the fertiliser pellets, i've never used them.

It actually snapped where I first thought to chop it but I changed my mind. That break changed it back again - choice removed. As they say "Good recovery".

The pellets look to me like Tamahi organic rapeseed bonsai fertiliser. They need replacing every 2-3 months and the old ones can be composted. I just bought some so am interested to see how it works

As I'm not sure how old the stuff is so I will replace it with Naruko after 3-4 weeks (there will be enough nutrients in the media mix for the 1st few weeks).

I use BioGold as fertiliser and it gradually dissolves away to nothing. That tends to be in small triangular pellets. I imagine what you have there is something of a similar nature. I would just put it back into the surface of the pot with expectation it will reduce down over time with watering.

It must be some sort of organic fertiliser - as it came from Windybank, it's either what they use or it came on the pot when it was imported. I may remove it as I want to feed this tree through this season and I don't know if that stuff will do the job. If I replace it with new Naruko, I know it will be fed.
