Even for pilosocereus, to have arms growing well above the soil with such symmetry is remarkable. This cactus is a gem and will continue to get more impressive as it grows. Pilos are generally fast growing as you know, so you won't have to wait long!. Alot of columnar cacti tend to only coppice from the base and tend to send up shoots from that point, such as most Cleistocactus, Eulychnia, Weberbauerocereus etc but the only cacti that I regularly see that will branch like this from a young age are the Cylindropuntia. Saguaro's won't grow an arm until they are at least 40 years old. Even then you are looking at 60-70 years to see the true cowboy sterotypical look. I am very impressed with this cactus like many others judging by the comments box. A pleasure to watch.

Nice cactus! May your lovely cactus continue to grow 😀. When I repot my more prickly cacti I put on a pair of welding gauntlets 👍🏼. Now I have re-roofed my garage it is so hot but with a few modifications such as sun filter netting it will be fine for my ever growing cactus population 😎. All the best and love in cactus, look forward to your next video already 💚🌵💖🌵💚🌵💖🌵💚🌵

Hello Lyn, that was a scary video. I loved it but I was was scared you were going to get pricked with all those arms! If I tried to pot up a cactus like that I would end up with more spines than the cactus! Even with the extra pot I'm kind of clumsy. I'm so glad everything turned out perfectly. The cactus did look much happier. Sending you and Hans peace and love for a wonderful weekend from your friend in Georgia!

Top dressing does more for your plants than just looking good. A top dressing does the same things for a potted plant that a mulch does form your outdoor garden. It shades the soil from the heat of the sun, slows down evaporation of moisture into the air, maintains a even amount of moisture throughout the soil ball, and prevents soil erosion caused by heavy watering.

@desertplantsofavalon3 жыл бұрын
Thats fantastic news that you have one of these Pilosocereus gounelli cactus plants too, I was lucky as mine has the arms already growing when I bought it a few years back, they do branch out much faster and earlier on this particular type of Pilosocereus compared to the other varieties, and once it has reached about 2-3 feet in height it should start to shoot out arms, thanks so much for your wonderful comments and support and for watching, and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a wonderful Wednesday today XXXX

Do you care for holiday cactus? and if so what is your preferred fertilizer for them?
@desertplantsofavalon3 жыл бұрын
Hi Burton :-D yes I love Holiday Cacti and have a lot of them, I have made a lot of videos on them too, I prefer to use a Tomato feed for them, it sounds odd haha, but I dilute the tomato feed to half the strength that they recommended for tomatoes, the high potassium in tomato feed really helps to promote more flowering, I use a normal cactus and succulent feed in Spring until mid Summer, and then switch to the tomato feed from early late August to October to promote more flowers, I use the tomato feed once every 3rd watering that I give to them, thanks so much for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a wonderful Wednesday XXXX

I found a patch of (wild?) Prickly pears. One was toppled over, so I put it into the soil like a jade plant hoping it roots... I found out the hard way it has tiny, almost invisible, thread like, barbed spines... lol. I was a bit surprised by that. I wonder if they will survive the winter... I didn't think cactus was winter hardy...
@emmitstewart19213 жыл бұрын
Some prickly pears are hardy down to -20degrees Fahrenheit. They can be found above the Canadian border. There are some kind of cactus in every state in the US, and as far south as Tierra Del Fuego.
