Nigel’s serissa is one if my favorites! Maybe these will join that list soon. Two trees set up for success! Nice work Steve!

Thanks Dave. Creating the fine branch structure will be the hardest part.

I liked both together but then once you split them I could see the individual character of each. Great stuff :)

Thanks Xav. I think this main tree has the potential to be something special with some careful pruning.

I’m diggin them separated. To me, there seems to be more freedom of potential when there is only one in the pot. Great job on the roots, brother. Chipping concrete is never fun!

Agree. They are much better separated. I put them into the same soil mix this time again, so I expect to be chipping concrete again in a couple of years.

Absolutely lovely, lovely trees. ( I planted my 99 cent regular azalea bushes 37 years ago and now they are as tall as me. I don’t know what kind, just four are purple and four are salmon color.) It must be tough to sacrifice the blooms now. But bonsai is about the best future for the tree...I guess. :-)

This one also has salmon flowers, but it’s the leaf shape that differentiates it as Satsuki. I need to get hold of a pleasing style before I care too much about it flowering. It’ll come in time. It’s always the future vision that is most important.

Could be. That sound always gets drowned out by my tinnitus. My hearing aids are great for listening to bird sounds, but insect noises are limited to crickets at night, and cicadas when they are out and about.

Steve. Check out: Ed The Pond Professor. Check out The World’s tiniest pond. This is so super cool that I bet we can incorporate it in a bonsai setting. Plus. Part 2 he actually adds live creatures. You always wanted a realistic water version.

The parent shrub blooms a couple of weeks after all my other landscape azaleas are done. They finish mid June. This one starts late June/early July. However I plan to prune these hard very soon, which will ensure no blooms next spring. I started these from cuttings about 20 years ago. They were not thriving in the ground so I decided to bonsai them about 5 years ago.

repotting Azaleas in the Sumer time??

After it flowers it’s ok if you don’t prune branches and don’t do much root pruning. At least that has been my experience with this tree

Why the stones?
@Steves_Backyard_Bonsai
@Steves_Backyard_Bonsai Жыл бұрын
When repotting, sometimes the tree is unsteady in the pot until the new roots start growing. The large stone on the second tree is to support the tree. It will be removed once the tree takes hold. Hope that answers and thank you for subscribing.

@@Steves_Backyard_Bonsai The plants would be steadier for longer if you wired the root ball to the container. Why did you lay the tools on the roots?

@@Dunbarton you’re not wrong, but I don’t like to wire in my trees if I can help it. The tools were there until I could get a stone. Hope you watch more content
