I actually repotted 5 of my plants but you only see 2 of them here. The others I did as an arrangement & that’s coming in a future post & video. I call this project the “Snake Plant switcheroo” because I swapped out containers & locations they were in. Sansevieria, also known as Mother In Law Tongue, handle dry air & lower light conditions like champions!
After the repotting was finished, I moved them to a shady place in the garden. I let them settle in for a day and then gave them both a thorough watering before moving them to their spots in the house. Anyone else as crazy about Snake Plants as I am?!

So happy I found you. You work with your plants as I do. Lay paper down... easy clean up, same tools & I believe you are the 1st gardener I've seen on KZbin who wears gloves. I love plants but for many years I have thought my townhome was too dark. After watching many videos I can now look around & see all the wasted spots I've missed. I have recently given homes to 6 plants & have found I can bring 12 more in, perhaps more? Wish me luck. I'll be watching you. Thanks.

I have over 30 of these beautiful plants my tallest is about 4 1/2 feet tall and over 30 years old. It's a blooming momma that's been past down. We call her the big mamma, she grows like wildfire in my apartment. She loves being in the corner in low light and water 1 time a month. I have had to separate her 3 times. I finally put her in a giant pot . Once you divide it they will grow like crazy.

My snake plant is shrivling up and I don't know why. it's the only plant I've ever cared about and I don't know what I'm doing. I will try this potting mixture and hope something changes. I only water it once a month and i just get it damp I don't really soak it. It's in a house that is almost always 68-70 degrees Fahrenheit. and it just doesn't seem to be doing well.

Do the pots have to have drains at the bottom? I know you mentioned that you should use soil that drains quickly but what about the pot itself?
@saiikik2727

Yes. You do not want water stuck in the bottom soil. You want the water to be able to drain.

I know it's bad Self-talk, but I'm an idiot! A WORD TO THE WISE.... The soil that was in the pot of my snake plant was so under nourished, I felt the entire root system needed cleaned and started over. it took me forever to get it all untangled (and then I had a stupid idea to rinse off the roots once I got it all spread out) The plant had a myriad of leaves with roots over here and over there...so many, in fact that even though I threw a number of them away when I split it into 2 pots, I suddenly had 2 very fully grown plants. I thought they would just flourish immediately with happy vibrant new life... I was so wrong. I didn't think they would ever forgive me for the rookie surgery I performed. I repeated this tomfoolery to all my plants...my fern is just now starting to fill in after 14 months!! All of them started looking lifeless, like I took a machete to them. The snakes look wonderful now thank God! But just looking back at that fiasco has exhausted me. DON'T RINSE THE ROOTS IS THE MORAL TO THIS STORY!

Thank you! Just found you today, and love your enthusiasm! But it's like you are speaking a foreign language. Lol I'm a newbie and don't know the terminology that you are using in order to understand what you are using?, why are you using it?, why are you mixing these things? It would really help if these were mentioned. When you repot, why do you not use the black pot with the holes to protect the plant from over watering? I have NO green thumb. I got this plant to try again. Should I cut off this brown (looks burnt) leaf out of the bunch? 🤔 Thanks for the video and any advice you may have! Have a good one! 🤗

Personally I would have made about 10 plants out of that overcrowding, and would have just soaked the lot in a basin to eliminate the soil so there'd be no need for a knife, but I am no expert

My snake plant rots the same time of year now two years in a row. The first it was my boyfriend overwatering it so much that the wood floor was even sporting a rot ring! I took it outside, dried it out and let it grow outdoors for the rest of the summer. Removed all the squishy rot roots and replanted the good. It grew back lovely all through fall and winter and then in spring the rot came back. Probably because my boyfriend and that damn watering can! So now I've got about one good piece left. What size pot should i use for it?

I just bought a huge one and I need advice, if I should repot i as I would any other normal house plant upon purchase and home going. Can any of you plant experts guide me please. It is BIG and I think it has been at the store for a while. It is green and beautiful and healthy, but a couple leaves of like 5 groupings of the plants together, look as if they have been a little abused. Other wise, they look really nice and healthy. It is just so BIG. Help. What do I do? Repot or leave alone. The internet says leave it alone.
