Just reading through the comments....and though you 1. disagree with what is being said or 2. don't like the way it's articulated, 100% this is spot on! What is said here is the truth, the ugly truth, and why it's consistently swept under the rug and ignored is a mystery to me for a group of people who proclaim to "love" their animals or "love" animals. Perfect example, no matter what your opinion is, spider ball pythons are a breed of ball python. Why I don't like "morphs" (and I happen to have one) is that they are for the most part genetically inferior animals that as said here ... would perish in the wild. edit: why it's swept under the rug was a rhetorical question. It's swept under the rug as all things that are swept under the rug ..... $$$$$$$

The problem with your theory is a bunch of the original morphs were found as adults in the wild. The bigger problem comes from people taking the easy way vs the right way. For example too many people who want to create let's say an albino will buy 1.1 albino siblings and breed together then say I produced albinos and try to get most money before there common. Instead should of bought 1 male albino and breed to a bunch of unrelated females to create hets then either bred the half siblings together or buy a new male albino or het from someone else. The latter example would create healthier more diverse animals vs the 1st. Problem is almost every one takes the 1st route then it continues with the next person

In regards to age of breeding, at least in black rat snake a field study in kentucku of 15 years showed tgat sexual maturity is at 4 (average/median) They tracked individuals by marking them

What is the recommended vivarium/enclosure size for a fully grown corn snake? Difference for male vs female?

He's horribly wrong about the Albino Green Tree Pythons. VPI acquired a group of Meraukes from Bushmaster Reptiles. Dave and Tracy Barker bred a pair of wild-caughts together in the late 90s and produced F1 Merauke-types, some of which had pink tongues. Damon Salceies had several animals from that clutch and bred a male and female together. In the resulting F2 Merauke-type clutch, there was an Albino named Floyd. Trooper Walsh also had an animal from the VPI clutch, and after Damon's success with hatching out an Albino, he later produced an Albino named Midas. Both Floyd and Midas lived to adulthood, but never reproduced. Marcial Mendez has produced at least three Albinos, including one earlier this year that is still alive. It is a typical and repeatable, simple recessive trait.
@Rawrxdlol794 ай бұрын
@drk_xlvr07 No, it didn't take 20 years. Floyd was hatched in 2002 and the WC animals were imported in the late 90s. You never mentioned Marcial Mendez. Please provide a timestamp in the video that claim. You never mentioned Damon, who was the first to successfully hatch an animal. You said, "It's only happened one time." It's happened five times from that specific lineage, proving it's heritable and not a random occurrence like you said. You're also neglecting the European Albinos. I'm disputing your historical accuracy, not your point. You're speaking with absolute authority on a subject you're misinformed about, and your argument is based on flawed reasoning because you are misunderstanding the context. By the way, apparently, I don't know how genetics work because what is the Merauke gene? Merauke is a district in Indonesia and Green Tree Pythons aren't even found there. Merauke is where they were exported from. So where on the chromosome, or even which chromosome is the Merauke gene found on?

You stated starting at 2:10:30, "That's why you have a lot of people in the Green Tree Python community that think that the Albino is in the Merauke gene because they don't understand how genetics work." Once again, where on the chromosome, or even which chromosome, is the Merauke gene found on?
@Rawrxdlol794 ай бұрын
@drk_xlvr07 So to be clear, you don’t know and won’t own up to not knowing the correct history of the Albino Green Tree Python as demonstrated by not mentioning the first person who hatched them, the total number of them hatched out, and that other Albinos that have arisen. You don’t know how genetics work yourself while claiming others don’t. Got it, thank you.

breed is a set of morfological and behavioral characteristics, I wouldn't call reptile color morphs breeds, as I wouldn't call koi and goldfish morph or guppy strains breeds, you can't breed for them just by breeding two parents of the same morph, thats like calling yellow, brown and black labradors separate breeds
@litchyredrago80654 ай бұрын
@drk_xlvr07 now you really showed your character, didn't you. Laughing at my sentence, that you misunderstood. I never said goldfish and koi are breeds of the same species, just that they both have their own color and shape morphs, but they are not called breeds, because you cannot get them just by breeding two similar parents. Also breed standards aren't 100%. They have a range. So if you have a dog that has shorter ears, as long as it's within the standart it's the same breed. You also wouldn't get a different breed of dog randomly in a litter. Breed in context of human bred animals is a different word that you might be familiar with in science and genetics. But when we are talking about different colored ball pythons, they are morphs, not breeds. You are saying that reptiles bred in captivity are different than those in nature or "bred naturally". That is true, they don't have to hunt, or hide from predators so individuals that would die in nature are allowed to reproduce. But as long as they are healthy, I dont see anything wrong with that. That doesn't make them a different animal from those found in nature.

This is a great podcast and I really agreed with most of his talks.. there are lot of good stuff done out there but mostly is shady and not well explained.. People need to be conscious! That’s why I only have 2 reptiles, to provide them the best and I also refuse to buy them when there are so many for adoption and need for real pet love

I feel like the gate keepers have locked up shop for me sometimes. They really don't like hearing about how they keeping animals in glorified dressers or screw organizers. Ball python and big snakes are definitely the worst. Crested world is only better because the animals are small. I keep in tubs but they are properly sized and have enrichment. We should apply some rules or laws like Europe. Animals should be able to move and have light

Wild type humans don’t wear clothes and it makes them “evolve” to be smarter. Giving humans clothes dumbs them down and reverses evolution… … do you see how irrational this logic is?

Wild type humans don’t have access to antibiotics and neither should your pet 🙄
@grisflyt4 ай бұрын
I haven't watched the video yet, but yes. Animals don't need antibiotics. They are super tough. In the wild you can find snakes with an eye missing and just an open wound and it barely affects them. You and I would die in days because of the infection. Antibiotics are used in the food industry. But that's about money. The antibiotics keep the animals alive while under extreme mistreatment. I would hope we keep animals better than animals breed to be slaughtered within months. Also, antibiotics are a highly invasive treatment and the reason reptiles aren't tested or treated for salmonella.
