Some of them def do make some neat sounds! ☺️
@rickh37143 жыл бұрын
Yeah. I kept golden bell frogs as a kid and had the vivarium in my room at night. What happened on 2 occasions was a tinkling sound that sounded just like a little metallic bell. My dad rescued them from the biology teacher at school who had them for dissecting. I had them for a year or so before releasing them. Nowadays that is frowned upon (or illegal technically) as what we now know as chytrid fungus is often prevalent and this might spread it. I haven't yet found any other reference to the bell sound they made. I think most people assume they resemble Golden bells as they do as well (*IF their pattern is predominantly metallic gold on bright green). Some have very little or no gold markings. One or two are spectacular either in bright greenness or in metallic gold/ green patterning. They have a blue flash on their hind legs as well. Sometimes I see other ones in the garden in between drought periods. Sometimes I hear them 'screaming' when rats attack them outside. It was the frog they moved Olympic facilities for in Sydney but is still reasonably common as an introduced species in NZ. I live where Kawekaweau used to live and any strange noise in the bush I wonder if it is an undiscovered specimen. I imagine it might have sounded like a deeper voiced version of a Leachie. They could have eaten average sized ones of those for breakfast I think. That supposedly extinct giant gecko has New Caledonian DNA affinities but the old time Maori definitely described it as it appears in the Marseilles specimen. As we live in a tsunami zone it may not be inconceivable they may have arrived on a chaotic current from one of them thousands of years (or more) ago.

Stoner, the Beardie is extremely chill, won’t even bother to headbob when he sees his reflection. But Gaboon, the Vinegaroon, is very grumpy & extremely active at night. @haileybaker85423 жыл бұрын
Try to get your hand to = something positive. Frequent handling is one of the only ways to work out aggressive behavior and develop their comfort. Put your hand in the tank more often to get him used to it. He needs to get used to it and know that nothing bad is happening and you're not a threat. This will take a long time with day geckos
@haileybaker85423 жыл бұрын
You do not have to get bit to do this. But know that if he bites you you should remain calm and not react in a way that shows the gecko that biting works to rid himself of stressful external stimuli

QOTD: Normally all my reptiles are pretty chill. But lately one of my bullsnakes has been acting feisty. I'm wondering if because he is approaching 2 yrs old, that he is going through like a snake puberty. Maybe he smells the female bullsnake nearby and his instincts to breed is kicking in. Idk. But for once I actually have to keep an eye on him when I'm changing his water or doing something else in his enclosure because he will strike at me, and even got me once and drew blood. Definitely think the leachies would love a larger enclosure. Congrats on the pair of new leachie eggs.

Hello Dayyan I hope you're well? I just wanted to ask why you don't keep the eggs in with the parents? Would the eggs hatch in that pot if left there? Thank you for another great video.
@Reptiliatus3 жыл бұрын
Good question! Firstly I can’t fully control the variables for a successful incubation. The primary reason however is that leachianus love eating lizards. They also don’t have any parental instinct like some of the other reptiles you see on my channel so they would 100% eat their offspring. 😅

He’s slipped by me a few times too, and is the only lizard I have who’s ever bitten me. But I love him. Leachies don’t seem to like insects because they don’t get the right size. Both them and gargoyles are actually specialised in very large prey for lizard standards. Other than very large insects, like grasshoppers, they also could catch smaller lizards and other small vertebrates. They would probably respond better to grasshoppers, mice and even feeder lizards.
