Layman's critique: - The way it was sung was sleepy, monotone, uninspiring, with a lot of generic lyrics and messages which you could associate with most NDP songs. Not something memorable unless you listened to it 100 times in one sitting alone. If you cannot imagine the song sung and performed in a philharmonic orchestra at marching pace, rethink perhaps. - Lack of imaginative aspirations or lyrics. Some of the lyrics make it look like a song for kids. Use/reference Singaporean mythology perhaps, and emphasise more on the nature or aspirations of the Navy. - Lacking in "punch". Doesn't seem like something one would march to, not exciting, and sounded close to some song you'd sing at a local karaoke. - Melody was passable, but could just barely hear the naval-like melody. And to be fair, I only compared this to neighbouring naval songs like Indonesia, Korea and ROC.
