Hey y'all! I'm back with the last segment of the Fremont rollback/rollout program that I filmed during the summer. A little back story that's been stated in a previous video;
I was in Fremont for the second week in a row, trying to find one of the city's Leach Crocodiles. I decided on a whim that I would head to a different neighborhood. As I was heading there, I noticed a pickup truck with its' trailer completely full of brand new carts. I remembered my aunt had her carts replaced a couple of weeks prior, so I thought there was probably a rollout in the neighborhood I was in. Sure enough, after passing a crew distributing brand new green carts, I stumbled upon a crew removing old recycling bins.
After wrapping up with that crew, I was about to head off to find a truck, but then I stumbled upon this crew with brand new recycling bins as they were crossing an intersection. I figured why the hell not, and decided to film them too. Good decision on my part, since they were all really chill and open with the camera. They even allowed me to ride on their trailer and assemble a few carts. Shoutout to them, it was the highlight of my summer.
Like I mentioned before, and evident from the color of the carts they were passing out, they were distributing recycling bins. All of the BFI carts you see were from the original rollout they did in 2003-2004, back when they had McNeilus Automators roaming the streets. Over the course of 15+ years, many had survived the test of time, as evident from the sheer number of BFI carts being removed. I'm not sure why the city decided that Republic Services had to do a new rollout considering many of these bins would have been good for another 5-8+ years easily. They did cite many carts being "faded" and "mismatched color coding" as reasons, which I find RS/the city to be at fault for that, but I digress.
Enjoy the video!
