I was in a nursing home at 30 years old and at the start of the pandemic. We need to fight for the disabled in nursing homes. It's not ok what they do.

@MrsByrd-hl6ll I totally agree. We also need to implement better training across the board in the unique needs and mindset of our elderly & disabled patients. They should be supported physically as well as mentally while being treated with the dignity and respect they deserve. Too many care centers start out sweeping mistakes and even mistreatment under the carpet until eventually the environment of the facility is ripe with infractions and "shortcuts" in the care provided to the most vulnerable among us. I believe healthcare workers and teachers should be some of the highest paid jobs due to the fact that they care for our most precious family members. We need changes all the way around.

My Dad is going to be 63. He was soon to be retired after working his ass off all his life, but he had a stroke and fell from a ladder this fall. It was caused by an aneurism and several surgeries later he's in a nursing home and is miraculously making progress, it's slow but we have hope he'll be able to move out of the nursing home one day. I'm going to make sure all my family and friends hear what Eric Hovde says about my father and that they vote accordingly

I am massive stroke survivor (35 at the time), was in a coma for a month, and woke up infantized. I had to relearn everything: sit, stand, eat, you name it I had to relearn it. From my own personal experience people in nursing homes can live long lives... they just need assistance. I was in my nursing home/stroke rehab for 2.5 years. I knew alot of the residents there & STILL call them today 10 years later!! So I call BS on that idiot. Oh & yeah some of us don't die in the nursing home... we actually get discharged like I did in Dec 2015. I'm living independently w/o a nurse or aid, and yes I'm in a wheelchair but hey I am alive & kicking still.

Happy that you've recovered...but remember that many of the people in nursing homes aren't as "young" as you were when you had your stroke. My own sister, who's 66, is in one. Quite a few ailments that she needed to be there...others with her are in their 80's on up to late 90's.

I’ve been in a nursing home a couple of times, after my open heart surgeries when I had no one to be home with me. I had rehab, they fed me, they washed me, when I couldn’t. Was it great? No but I couldn’t have done it on my own. But I was discharged and I’m at home now, on my own. Everything he says is untrue and unfair. I will be voting till the day I die.
