In my country 16 year old is age of marriage with parental permission. In some regions 14. Sometimes however this law is used by fundies, usually in Muslim regions or in Romani communities, to force their daughters to marry someone against their will. As I understand this is exactly what happens in some fundie Evangelical communities in the USA, that explains why republican politicians are pro-child marriage - their voting base engages in it!
