@@gerrydt57 What's interesting about this framing is that congressional pay raises are on a set schedule that's automatic, been that way for at least the last 20 years, offhand. When people whine that 'Congress wants a raise' like that's something they have to request, they show the world that they don't know how any of this works. The reality is, a majority have to vote on a bill to REFUSE an automatic pay rate increase ... to NOT get their raises. Something the Democrats did in 2019 when they were in charge of the House, last time I remember it happening. But that had been going on for 10 years at that point, across times of both parties being in charge. Overall they've taken way less pay raises vs. what they were entitled to, ever since the financial meltdown of 2008-09.

It's so common, it's often dismissed as a stereotype, an overexaggeration, even as an outright falsehood. Most of our elite colleges and universities are concentrated in the Northeastern states, with a few in CA. As are most of the 2nd and 3rd tier academic/research institutions. The cities and states on either coasts are far more heterogenously diverse than those in the interior cities and states. And coastal states are mostly progressive/ Democrat-led (blue states). Those that are not blue are not overwhelmingly conservative (red states), but instead are a mix of the two-purple states. Even FL, where Ron DeSantis is governer, has a significant and influential progressive population. One of main reasons Democrats lost so much support from working class Americans is because they failed to pay attention to politics at the local levels of government throughout the non-coastal states until Trump won the 2016 Presidential election. Republicans have the support of most non-college educated and/or middle Americans despite the very real fact that Republican policies and laws hurt, this demographic far more than any other, and in very real, tangible, immediately clear ways. Red states have much higher rates of child poverty, maternal deaths, unemployment, illiteracy, all kinds of health problems, suicides, gun homicides, incarceration, addiction, while they also have significantly lower incomes, life expectancy, social mobility, graduation rates, access to social welfare services, etc. Longstanding red states have significantly lower quality of life indicators across the board, and it's been this way my entire life (40+ yrs). Seeing a diverse slice of Americans in Los Angeles or NYC (the largest cities in the US, both overwhelmingly left-leaning, LA on the West Coast, NYC on the East) have no idea where Iowa or S. Dakota or Wyoming or Nebraska or even Ohio (home to Chicago, the 3rd largest city, also overwhelming blue/left-wing) is demonstrative of how persistent the "stereotype" of "coastal elites" being ignorant of middle America is. I can't prove it, but I highly doubt there's anyone in Iowa who could not identify NY, CA, OR, MA, NC, SC, VA, DC (or the general DC/VA/MD AREA, where I grew up, or the DMV for short). I don't know if I adequately explained this or not, or if I overexplained it. I'm American, and I can't deny that I suffer from American-centricsm, as much as I would like to not be that way, it's always amazing to me how much knowledge so many non-Americans have about the US-it's often more than most Americans have of our country. Either way, I apologize for the length and lack of coherence. 💜

It's iffy, but technically their little "impeachment inquiry", however stupid and performative, is a "legislative purpose" in accordance with the House rules.
