Mozart and Verdi are both genius, miracles that only happen once in a million. When I listen this piece I can hear all the suffering and sorrow of the whole humankind, hell and heaven put together in the center of a storm that blows us all up. When I first heard this music I got almost crazy. This music can take you further than any other drug.

compassion and love are the strongest feelings that exist. Thanks to these feelings that some may be called human beings. The music makes it all the more intense and powerful feelings. All the songs are perfect. But there are songs that are better able to increase your compassion than others. All depend on what you want to be.

I feel you dude. And who wouldnt be spoiled to the lacrimosa text after hearing the Mozart? But the Verdi requiem is an Operatic setting of the requiem text. It is all but an Opera lacking the staging. Yours is the same criticism that Verdi got from day one about that peice: that it's not a requiem, it's an opera. But it truly is Verdi's take on the gospel, and he is a composer of operas,so thats what he wrote I think the down thumbs you got on this were unfair, thats why i write to U

With this discussion about the ways this setting and Mozart's differ, little is said about the similarities. Take 0:52.-the semi-chromatic ascending line of the soprano recalls that in the bass in the Mozart setting occuring around the same time in the piece (1 min) and with the same text. Like the Mozart, this section relies on a "half-step up" motif. Like the Mozart, the piece is dominated by pulses on the second and fourth beats of each measure, and like the Mozart, it ends on a major chord.

here's a summary of why the verdi/mozart fight is just useless : mozart's requiem > 1791 (35 y.o and sort of dying) verdi's requiem > 1874 ( 61 y.o. and almost 30 to go) those 2 great men lived very different lives (and lifespans) at very different times, that's all. Realize that it would be a bit like comparing Jeff Buckley's "Dream Brother" and Joy Division "Love will tear us apart", don't you think ? (yes, time flies quicker in the 20th century. lol)

@@ItalianMappingBestMapper yea, I just read some of the other comments on the video and they compare the versions of the Lacrymisa from Verdi and Mozart. By knowing that Mozart didn't write most of "his" Lacrymosa (which I'm sure I knew even 11 years ago), my comment actually still makes sense when someone tries to compare Mozart's genius with Verdi's. In that case they should compare Verdi with Mozart's student. Haha let's see who replies to this in 11 years. In 2031... wow (Future me: I'm writing this during COVID19, I hope you're happy!)

@Busseto Good point , it wasn't finished, but It was still Mozarts Idea, The fact that he would right something as dark as The Requiem Mass turned Classical , at least for me when I first heard it about a month or so ago , into a much more emotional and darker, This is better music ,but I think the Requiem mass had more inspiration to this kind of thing, and also, please don't insult me, because it will not change my view on this at all.

I could add that the composers regarded today as "great" and despised for their popularity or their fadness while alive are countless > debussy, moussorgsky, satie, schönberg, gershwin, etc etc... I repeat, you're not wrong, you don't need to focus on when and how masterpieces are conceived to appreciate and study them. @RWT683 If you dare think that in or 300 years time some people won't remember and appreciate for instance the beatles or the rolling stones - who were typical "fads" - I then would think you don't really what music and art is about. Vivaldi was a "fad", Beethoven was a "fad", Stravinsky has been treated as such in his time. And Mozart and Verdi were "popular" back then too. People whistled their arias in the street like some sing random stuff today. You're not wrong but you're not really right

I think they are, somehow, different and there is not point of comparation. Mozart is great as Mozart and Verdi is great as Verdi. About the movie i think it has a view over mozart and, the director Milos Forman, has no point about telling the real life of Mozart. The movie is a fiction. Worlwide globalized prejucious i would say....

@RWT683 indeed that debate is too wide to fit in here ^^" my point is > I said Beethoven is/was a fad because he sort of became "out of fashion" in the early 20th century, then "discovered" again. Vivaldi was completely forgotten then discovered back in the 20th too. Mozart was never forgotten but still the movie Amadeus helped build his modern legend. Of course no one knows what 2300 will look like. No Lady Gaga XD but hopefully radiohead, the beatles, elvis, bbking, aphex twin etcetc
