I had a terrible squealing when trying to re-saw anything. I bought a variable pitch blade. It cut much better with hardly any squeal. My 14” Rigid saw (a Delta copy) with the widest blade I could use fought me on every cut. I bought a 16” Laguna and it will re-saw hard maple with a 1/4” blade. Having a nice saw and good blades makes a big difference.

Totally! If you run into the squealing problem again check the drive belt. I have to tighten mine every year or so otherwise it will squeal, particularly on startup, but I would imagine if you are pushing the saw it could also squeal then. Maybe that wasn’t your issue in this case, but I thought I’d mention it - it could save you a headache in the future 😉

Great stuff.. I feel like bandsaw mastery is a black art! There's not much to it, but if you don't have all the pieces sorted just right, it feels like you're miles away... One little tweek can make all the difference... I'm excited to see these sets get turned into guitars!

Totally! You’re right, it only takes one little detail to be overlooked for cuts to suck 😜 Thanks, I can’t wait to use this stuff - it’s primo 👌🏼 -Zach

My pleasure! Oh goodness. I’ve ordered from so many different places. The billets that I resaw come from either local sawyers or there is a local lumber company that has a small exotic woods section. Then there is Exotic Woods in Burlington, Ontario, which I’ve spent far too much money at as well as A&M Woods in Cambridge, Ontario. Those are the main ones.

Nice tutorial. Saw's cutting great!You covered all the important points, except----I can't recommend carbide blades too highly. Make a huge difference. Lennox makes a couple good for resawing, and laguna too. Better cut, and so much more longevity. On a saw as small as yours the blade will crack from blade fatigue (probably) before it's dull, but you'll still get your money's worth, especially cutting valuable wood (straighter cuts). I make a small power feeder that works on a band saw for resawing, and once you've got your set up right for manual feeding, the power feeder takes the stress and anxiety out of the actual cutting. My feeder is cheap, and will fit on small saws. Look up "Little Proteus Power feeder"

My first Lennox blade was still going strong after 12 years until I ran into a nail resawing some Black Walnut.

I know it’s 2yrs on, but I heartily recommend the Laguna Resaw King. Not only does it have a nice thin kerf, but it’s a great blade, I’ve gone through 12” slabs of bubinga and wenge, plus, as far as I know, it’s the only carbide blade that can run on 14” wheels. It’s an expensive blade but can be resharpened 3-4 times. Though to be fair, that cut was butter, lol. Setting the cut at 4.5mm yields 5 slices per inch so if you can find 8/4 lumber, that’s five back sets per billet, and usually an extra set of sides when set at 3.5mm. Sorry for the mixed units, lol…

@@redtreecollectiveguitars Thanks buddy, the problem is that as we get older our hearing gets distorted and non selective as it was when we were younger. Really, no music at all is good. Thanks for the video, I'll check out the others! Kevin

How thick cut do you do for guitar top and bottom and sides on bandsaw before going to drum sander.
@redtreecollectiveguitars3 ай бұрын
Backs and tops are 4-5 mm and the sides 3-4 mm. If your band saw is not dialed in stay on the thicker side .

Interesting subject. Background music unnecessary and too loud. Annoying, trying to understand what you say. Re-edit and re-post, Then I'll watch.
