I had a very similar accident back in August of 1999 when I was four-wheeling with my cousin on his atv. I crashed through a barbed-wire fence also. My accident wasn't as severe as Kevin's but it did leave a huge permanent scar on my neck. I'm grateful I survived and nothing severe happened to me, such as having damaged vocal cords or damaged esophagus.

Geez, when Kevin hit the barbed wire, I got a horrible flashback to 2008, when my dad hit the barbed wire fence while out mowing; the zero-turn mower itself didn't respond when he tried to stop, and hit the fence hard. He had surgery to replace his bones; the hole in his leg was massive and went down to the bone. It's a miracle he still has his legs, and all he needed was a metal bone

Besides "Toddler Glass Save," this episode was the scariest I have ever seen. God was with Kevin that day, and he had those paramedics at the right place at the right time. I hope you are doing alright, Kevin. God bless you.

The fact that there was a battalion chief right there was pure intention from someone above. Battalion chiefs are the only one who can authorize the life flights. It really was a miracle he was there and able to call it prior to first responders in the area responding doing so. Those seconds were crucial.

Talk about having the right people at the right time. I knew a kid who fell off his horse and landed neck first on a fence and tore a large chunk out of his neck and face. He was by himself and had to walk about a mile through the woods back to his house before he got help. This was back around 96-97 so no cell phone. The doctor said had it cut about a quarter inch deeper he would have bleed out befor he ever made back to the house. He still has the scars but he's blessed to be alive .

When I saw what happened to Kevin, I was really afraid because I thought he would die. Barbed wire is very, very dangerous. 28 years have passed since this happened. I’m sure Kevin is forever in his rescuers’ debt.

A thing worse than barbed wire are sharp kite wire, made with crushed glass and glue (here in Brazil is very common that kind of accident, specially with motorcycle drivers, almost all fatal and at neck position).
