What a good big sister. She totally protected her baby sister by sending her to hide while she called the police. As a baby sister myself, it just makes me love my big sisters even more, cuz i know they would have done the same for me, as they’ve done it in different situations all my life. I was 15 when I stayed home from school one time because I had a virus. I was at home by myself because my dad had to go to his own doctor appointment and my mom was in Chicago on a business trip. @ Dude this whole show is designed to show the effectiveness of the 911 system. If it didn't work then this show wouldn't have existed. The intruder didn't come to the home with a gun, he took the gun that the family already owned that was stored improperly. I'm not saying that guns cannot play a role in defending oneself, but keeping guns out in the open puts people at risk, especially in a home with children. Very rarely do intrusions happen with the goal of harming people, which is why they often occur during the day when people are not home. If no one was home, as the burglar in this case may have believed, he would have stolen the guns that were improperly stored and may have used them for other crimes or sold them to people who probably shouldn't be gun owners.

My cousin was the victim of sexual assault at 12 years old the guy got 20 years but most likely will be out before his full sentence term. I never spoke of prison terms only that parole might've played a role in him getting out sooner than 2024. Since he was a career criminal I doubt he's free.

Second, The 911 dispatcher remembers the call from the other day of the attempted break in with 2 kids home alone and she treats it as nothing and calls it out as something more minor than it is until he breaks in, then making it something serious? The behaviors of this episode are just wrong.

This would be the last time I would let my child stay home alone. I don't care how "mature" someone is at 13. If you cant stay out past 8pm, you sure as hell cant stay home alone. Its funny how "Sheriff" means different things in different places. In Philadelphia the only thing the Sheriff office does is transport Prisoners from Point A to Point B. They don't go on patrol calls. That's what the Police Department is for. The description of a Sheriff in Philadelphia is "The Sheriff provides basic court-related services such as transporting prisoners, providing courthouse security, and other duties with regard to service of process and summonses that are issued by county and state courts." it has no enforcement powers.

I'm afraid this is the outcome the criminals are hoping for: the victims being petrified by fear and afraid to walk about their own house. The parents should have apologized for not training their kids in proper firearm usage and/or self-defense tactics, and the whole family should have immediately received thorough instruction from a competent firearms instructor. Moreover, a firearms instructor can often provide training in numerous non-lethal defense tactics, for those who won't want to use firearms. Here's how it's suppose to work: You approach the door from an angle with an AR-15, Shotgun, and/or a sidearm, and immediately YELL out commands to the subjects to put their hands up NOW, BY YESTERDAY! Honestly, in many cases the second they see the AR-15, or even hear you yelling commands, they will pee their pants and run for the hills. If they don't follow your commands immediately (quick, fast and in a hurry!), and if the subjects are still banging at your door, make sure you have a good line of fire on the subject(s) and engage them until they fall to the ground. In the real world, sometimes the "line of fire" will include your neighbors house directly behind the suspects, so you have to be REALLY sure your bullets will go in the right place. Before you open fire, you need to be confident you are not dealing with a drunk idiot who doesn't genuinely intend to harm you. However, if you repatedly yell out commands while displaying your weapon and they ignore you and continue attempting to break in, well, that's their decision. Once the subject(s) fall to the ground, don't approach them and yell at them to NOT MOVE ONE MILLIMETER, until Law Enforcement arrive. Don't worry about their medical condition, at that point the scene isn't safe for ANYONE to provide medical attention to the subjects, because they haven't been searched for weapons and you don't have anyone covering you. It is preferable to call 911 as soon as possible, but only AFTER you have a good line of fire established. Tell the 911 call taker your address, and advise you have one or more subjects at gunpoint who are attempting to break your door down, and the subjects are refusing to follow your orders to show their hands and cease their felony activities (i.e. for which use of deadly force is permitted). Also advise the 911 operator and you will immediately put your firearms away AFTER the call taker tells you the officers have informed dispatch they are at or near the scene (i.e. and not 5 miles away). The officers may not want to actually approach the scene until you've confirmed to the dispatcher you've secured your firearms, and it will help them out if you can do this safely.

Seriously? You don't think a parent should leave a 13 and 10 year old home alone? Most 13 year olds are babysitting by that age. I assume you only have little children, you have to give them some independence at some point. My children are 13, 11, and 8 and I will leave the older two home for a couple of hours while I run errands. I don't leave the 8 year old with them yet but there is nothing wrong leaving older kids home alone. This was a random occurrence. P.S. I wonder how many people in our state (Maine) have watched that episode as a child and had a door-to-door salesman knock on their doors and waited to see how the salespeople reacted to the fact that the door was locked and whether the salesmen would call them, leave a note, or break the door down. At least I know my foster mother's husband better than for him to break into the house of a customer much less attempt to rape or even kidnap a young girl. Remember, folks. If you have kids alone or with a friend in the house and a strange man claiming to be a salesman knocks on your door repeatedly and decides to break it down and gets your gun, he's no salesman. He's either a burglar or a predator. Imagine how the officers or the judge would've reacted had the intuder or his attorney claimed he was with the U.S Department of Corrections or the Department of Housing and that he was there to inspect the house. Since neither the girls or their parents knew him, I seriously doubt that a jury would believe his story.

I would hide in my parents bathroom and I wouldn’t say anything and I would put my dog Peanut in my father’s office. This happened on a Tuesday and 3 days before Christmas. After this happened, Crystal and Randi wouldn’t go outside when it gets dark and they won’t go down to the basement unless they’re together. While this was happening, Crystal was dressed but Randi was still in her nightgown. This happened 5 months before I moved to North Carolina, but I moved to Charlotte which is 1 hour from Lexington. I was still living in Fountain Hills, Arizona at the time.

I would call the police out and say on the line until the they get there that my opinion or have a dog 🐕 and or called the neighbors nextdoor.

They should have had their dogs in the house instead of in cages.

Why didn't she grab the shotgun when she had the chance??? She could have legally defended herself but she chose not to. If I were in this situation and I had access to a shotgun, I would have grabbed it and if the intruder got in my line of fire, Tough!

She was probably too scared to think of that.

I'd be very scared as well. Though I wouldn't be as scared if I had an effective way to protect myself. Luckily for me, I live a minute away from my town's police station. I personally don't own a firearm but I do have many other effective ways of defending myself if somebody was to break into my apartment...

AlwaysOnline6200 Also, it's probably her parents gun. She might not know how to use it, which is always more of a hazard than someone with the same gun pointing it at her. Her parents probably drilled it in her head that she never touch the gun.
@TheArmedNurse10 жыл бұрын
Yeah I was thinking that as well. If you own a gun and you have kids, the worst mistake you'll make is telling your kids to stay away from the weapon. Not only does that raise their curiosity even more, they will not be able to defend themselves if their house is ever burglarized while they are home alone. I heard this story a few months ago about a girl who shot an intruder who broke into her house while her parents weren't home. Her mother taught her how to properly shoot the gun and that training paid off. The intruder didn't die but if she didn't have that gun, that intruder might have done something awful to her and even killed her.

***** What you're saying is, the kids have access to the gun and the shells but they were never taught how to use it properly? That's worse than all the scenarios.

I bet this is how it played it out once he found the two girls. He probably yanked out the phone cord, put the gun to one of their heads and screamed at them to get into another room, then threatened to shoot them if they tried to escape, before attempting to escape the house, only to duck back in when he saw the cop car coming.

so the parents left them home alone the day after someone tried to come in. interesting...

bartsimpson67543 I think it's crazy, how could any parent would leave their 10 and 13-year-old home alone, I would go out of my mind If I ever left my 10 and 13-year-old children home alone, without Adult Supervision or a Burglar alarm.

+bartsimpson67543 they said it turned out to be nothing so no one tried to come in. and for another the girls were old enough to stay by themselves. Steven Perez how old were you when you were staying at home alone when you were a kid?
@nicoleharris41929 жыл бұрын
+Janie Doe I was 13 when I was allowed to be home alone after school. It was only out of necessity, because both of my older sisters were in college, and both of my parents worked. But I still turned out fine. There were even times when I would have to make myself dinner, and even on occasion put myself to bed. Of course my parents made sure I knew how to stay safe, and required me to call them the moment I got off the bus, but still.

Today is October 10, 2024. It is scary to think, this man gets out of prison in the coming months. Assuming he was sentenced for this in early 1993, as this happened in December 1992. He will be back out onto the streets and who knows, he could end up committing another heinous crime like this, against innocent people (children) without a care and would gladly go back to prison. He could be capable of ANYTHING, this time. Let's hope he is not in a position, where he can re-offend. He was out of prison and back in prison, all within a 7-month span. This is what the concerning thing is, where I think his criminal mindset most definitely is still with him. I wish I could find his name somewhere, so that I can see what he was arrested for, that got him out in May 1992, and furthermore, how long he sat there previous to his release back out into society.

It's funny that one daughter told her mom that the guy had a gun to her head. I never seen him do that in the video.
