Reminds of my old battalion chief, he was a fireman’s chief. We would do anything for him because more times or not, he was needles making sure his crew was safe and not f**ked with. He died from an on the line duty cancer 4 years after his retirement he was a 34 year veteran, and was one of my biggest role models, I miss him every day. RIP Chief!!

Well, you sure succeeded in making this fella misty-eyed. Whoever you are, I'm very glad you got to experience up close, and especially for years, a man of that caliber. Very few are lucky enough to experience that. This is in no small part due to this series. While being one of many that I love dearly, the thing about this one is that it is orders of magnitude more emotionally impactful measured by runtime than any show I've ever seen and while I have no clue how much time I spent on TV shows, I did watch 3,000+ movies, mostly quality ones. I won't bore you with why that it, but safe to say that Tommy is a little to close for comfort in regards to how much I can relate to him. It's the closest to a mirror image than any show ever got. I'm a smoke diver and fire team leader by training due to previously being a ship's mate, but thankfully never had to make use of those skills. A heartfelt salute from Denmark and I sure hope you won't ever get to experience even a sliver of the fire fighting related horrors Tommy endured.

Leadership like that would not fly today. One thing that should really stand out is the man behind the desk did not have a computer even though PC's had been in the workspace since the mid 90's. But oddly enough, there is a laser jet printer.

I was a cop, and a new commander came in one time. His agenda was to save money. He took a look at my departments overtime and saw that we all did 30 hours a month. So he put a cap on it at 20 hours. He couldn't understand it when the expenditure went up.......until somebody told him that we'd always took the 30 hours as a 50/50 split between pay and time units. So instead of taking just the 15 hours of it as pay, we thought "f**k him", and took the full 20 in pay. Another clueless A-hole who came and went without achieving a damn thing 🤷🏼♂️

A new fire chief was promoted from B/C in our department. His first order was to split up veteran crews so they didn't get to comfortable and were able to cross train. There was a huge revolt and people stopped doing anything outside the scope of their positions and extra public service. He quickly changed his tune.

They could never make it today because between all the things that were said on this show and they didn't leave anyone alone, the snowflakes in today's society would have a cow, boycott the network that showed it and it wouldn't make a 2nd season. This show was by and far one of the best in the last 20 yrs and probably one of the most underrated.

It should be mandatory to retire at 65 for ALL PROFESSIONS. You had your time now move on and wait for your number
@tech-bore8839Ай бұрын
Sadly, that won't happen any time soon (if at all). People can't simply work up through the ranks anymore. The job is either given to an outside candidate, merged with another position (with no pay increase), or some senior employee who holds up the promotion process because they refuse to retire.
