Rescue operation continues for boys, soccer coach in Thailand cave

After the rescue of four more boys, dive teams were hopeful that they will also be able to save the remaining four boys and their adults soccer coach still trapped in the cavern.

Overlooked key point: O2 levels down (15% ~ 8'000') AND CO2 up, even tough we've been told there's an O2 tube. Also, AFAIK, doctor and 3 SEALs also still in cave (9 people total), so contributing to O2/CO2 concerns.

This was an incredible feat. I'm a former dive instructor with some wreck diving experience, but I can't imagine pulling that off with the loss of only one life. Amazing and uplifting news. BTW the reporter kept saying "oxygen tanks," when what he meant was "air tanks." It's a common error, but it irritates dive instructors.... ;-)

missrenee2u It was a field trip into a cave, but heavy rain from a monsoon filled the cave with water and they had to move further into the cave because of the rising water.

The kids and the coach have gone into the cave for years, it’s well known amongst the locals as a “fun” spot to go. It was one of the kids’ birthday soon and he apparently wanted to go in with his friends after a soccer practice one day. The rain then came suddenly (monsoon rains are crazy intense and can get to flash flooding levels in a matter of minutes) and the entrance to the cave was submerged. Some of the kids couldn’t swim so they went further into the cave to try and get to high ground. They didn’t intend to go far into the cave and were doing an activity that was considered as fun as going on a hike. They were just in the wrong place at the wrong time.
