Rescue our Plane from Florida

The weather in Florida has improved and I hop on an airliner to fly back down to rescue 1BC and bring her back home. I depart from Lakeland, Florida (LAL) on an instrument flight rules (IFR) flight to Knoxville, Tennessee (TYS) to stay the night with my parents and break up the long flight home. On the way to Tennessee I fly over Athens, Georgia where I learned to fly and then get some pretty views of the Smokey Mountains.

Flew in the right seat like Jamie quite a few times in college. Went to an aeronautical school, was going for ATC. Had plenty of buddy pilot's who offered me a free, fun rides, mostly cross countries. Flew in all kinds of single engine planes. Did become an ATCS gave it ten years, then Ron didn't like me. It was an awesome job to have!!! Keep up the video's!!

I miss them mountains! Grew up in Rome Ga. I miss it everyday!! Thanks for sharing your journey Kevin. My dad was a pilot he and my mom divorced when I was a kid. He lived in Athens and he flew into Rome to pick us up on weekends and flew us back to Athens. He passed away when I was 8 I do remember those flights out of Richard B Russell airfield.

Nice quick flight. Thanks for allowing us to go with you. Doesn't it just blow your mind how many people watch your video's in just the first hour they're up? Not to mention over all views. That had to be one unplanned expensive rescue trip. Good choice to not risk that flight home with an already stressed out co-pilot. lol Tell Jamie, we were all stressed out too, and it was just a video for us.

Terrain he warned about was Clingman's Dome at 6687'. My mother climbed that Bonanza for 5 minutes climbing out of TYS to go to Atlanta! But I'm sure you know the terrain around E TN.

That ONE screw...would drive me nuts too. Hard to tell why it is rusting, good stainless isn't something you can assume anymore. Knoxville area is beautiful if it were not for grandkids we would have seriously considered retiring there, have long time friends in that neck of the woods.

Every annual we replace all the screws we remove for inspection. They always look nice that way and it really is inexpensive doing that.

I can really relate to Jamie's fear of flying because my wife has only flown with me about 6 times in the last 15 years for fear of flying. Kevin, during the annual inspection they must have had one screw in the package that was a polished steel screw ! Check it with a magnet if it attracts it is steel.

Cool. I decided since my service tech career was kinda going south after 20+ years and a new company bought us out to ruin everything....lol....I signed up to take the classes as a flight dispatcher. Theres a good school right near home so I'm going to complete that and hope to move on to something more interesting. I completed my private pilot training in my early 20s but never did much with it after that, haven't flown anything in 20 years probably.... Now at age 44 I have to re-learn all that stuff! I'm pretty stoked, something new again to me and its interesting and enjoyable.
