How can anybody in their right mind let a car like this sit and rot? My neighbor's parents drive a 1971 Chrysler Imperial the same color, with a tan vinyl roof, and leather interior that looks like they just bought the car. The car belonged to the Father of my neighbor's Father, bought new in December of 1970 as a Christmas present for his wife. The real wire wheels on this New Yorker look incredible. Love your rescue videos.

Just had to sub , the interior is almost identical to my Australian built Chrysler regal se except it has leather bucket seats and floor shift. What a beautiful car mate, they built the best back then. Very easy to restore this one, body looks great. They all rust around the windsceens, I've done lots of them ,hard to do but after a few it's easy. This is well worth doing. 440, 727, and probably a big Dana 60. This will run forever, everytime I buy a new so I don't have to drive my Chrysler to work it falls apart and I end up driving the Chrysler for 6 months because I hate the new car so much. Same as the wife's 67 impala, once I start driving it I'm gone all day. Modern cars are why I left panel beating, they really are the pits . Great video mate, what a beast this could be. Not hard to get big power from a 440. Just built a 327 and they are like a toy compared to the Chrysler engines. I've blown up plenty of Ford's and Gms but never a Mopar.

I know I'm a bit of a late response to this video but what a great find! Any chance to save these old cars needs to be taken, because they'll never build them like this again. I'm 44 but as I've gotten older I've come to appreciate what luxury cars USED to be - it wasn't about how much technology was in the car so much as the smooth, effortless, isolated, and supremely comfortable ride quality and space and comfort. In that regard, there's not a single modern car that can come close to an old-school New Yorker and the like of this era. When you get that 440 running fine and the fuel system sorted, I cannot wait for that video. And yes, you are correct - body work is a whole other world from mechanical work. You might have to do a complete tear off of the vinyl top to have all the rust sorted under it, then a new top reinstalled.

I've always loved the 60's-70's cars, because it reminds me of my childhood and simpler times. In those days the ride was about enjoying the experience, and where you were going! Why do I want to go 200mph in 3 seconds? No, I want to enjoy the scenery and the ride!
@petergoodwin24653 жыл бұрын
I couldn't have said that better, we were lucky to Find a 67 impala factory Rh drive in Australia. The old cars are fantastic to drive, I put disc brakes on it and the thing handled great even before I rebuilt the whole thing. I really wish they built cars like this these days.

I totally agree with you! In my case, I've always been infatuated with big American cars! So much so that my dream cars are all from the era between the mid 50's and mid 70's. I really like several modern cars but I don't like most of them because they're hard to fix when they break. They lack real metal bumpers, have super elongated headlights and small, froggy trunks. Plus, their protruding dashboards, overloaded with gadgets, are annoying to the point that driving is not an enjoyable experience anymore! The worse part of it though is, that they're over designed yet look the same, thus lack the presence, slenderness, and elegance of old American cars like this beautiful New Yorker! I wish GM would stop copying foreign cars styling and principles, listen to its own people and bring back big American cars again! I mean, most people drive huge, gas guzzling SUVs or pickups nowadays. Therefore, there shouldn't be a problem with reviving the cars that made the US admired and envied the world over! God bless the good, old USA!

Those big old boats are from my era of cars that I learned to drive in. Those 440's of that time period still had the guts in them for the most part and had plenty of go-power at the throttle. The frigging AC compressor is almost as big as the engine in these 1970's Chryslers, even the slant 6 got stuck with one that robbed the little engine of any power at all lol. Thanks for taking the time and effort necessary to put together a terrific and informative video of your rescues for all of us to enjoy. I look forward to seeing what you come up with next!
