These land yachts were everywhere when I was young. I finally understand the attraction as stately cars like these are no longer being made. Today they look very unique but even at that time they were very reliable if you understood carburetors.

Oh wow, what a great car! It is almost identical to the one that I lost to hurricane Katrina except that every where yours is white, mine was butter yellow (cream and cordovan luxury group half year special feature model). In the fall of 01, I drove it from San Francisco to New Orleans and it was one of the best road trips I ever made.

When I restored my Mark V, I spent quite a bit of time on vacuum issues. Only a 35k mile car, but every vacuum diaphragm on the engine was shot, including the vacuum advance, choke pull-off and EGR valve. Ran much better when all the canisters were swapped with new ones, and idle vacuum is over 20in Hg now. Had to re-set the timing, of course.

Oh wow. 20in on your system? That must have taken time thats a good number. It ran much better when I disabled all vac lines except distributor and trans. It's so cool seeing people restore these cars. I love muscle cars, and big trucks, but I don't think these land yachts get much love. Great to hear👍

​@@SwedeMachine my engine had 160psi+ on every cylinder. I removed everything but vacuum advance, PCV and the choke pull off from the system. Replaced those. Original PCV, and other canisters all failed once other leaks were fixed. It pulled about 10in Hg before I fixed those. If you have a hand vacuum pump around, you can test them, and swap if they're bad. I was also careful to make sure no air could get past the air filter. These engines have very conservative valve timing, so they'll pull a lot of vacuum when they're running right.

They're sopposed to be big. 40 years ago nobody called full size cars Yachts it was normal to have a big car, you were styling. 1960 is my favourite Lincoln loaded, now that's a big car and weight is about 5500 pds, the limo's were about 6k pds damn near! Now you're talking styling!

I took a similar white town car with dark blue interior to Montreal for spring break in 1985. We stopped in Burlington VT on the way up and way home. The drinking age was 18 in Canada and Vermont then. We were styling in that car. We had one 8-track the whole trip. The Steve Miller Band. I hated it by weeks end. What a blast. The kid whose father let us use this awesome vehicle wrapped his Trans Am around a tree not long after and died.

When I was a teen my buddy Curtis had a silver over red '77. I remember a lot about this car as a teen. The ashtray doubles as a footstool. The glove box holds a 12 pack. The speedometer stops long before acceleration does. 6 people can sit and converse in the trunk.

My grandparents had a '76 town coupe . It was green and large ! Took many road trips in it as a kid, and eventually got to drive it. But, by that time, it had been sitting a while, and was starting to deteriorate. Nice work !

Absolutely love it!!!! I've had a few in my 60+ years, a "71" MK III, a "78" Town Car and an "81" Town Car. I lost interest in the newer one's because I thought they look like something off of The Jetson's. The big square body style just said luxury and comfort. Thank you for reviving this classic, it made my day.

1989 was the last nice body style. I'm 55 and remember "Consumer reports" saying Ford needs to update the ugly boxy body style in 88-89. A$$holes. Then Ford went to the plastic jellybean style in 90 and CR loved it, I was discusted. Then on to the 92 Crown Victoria into a plastic jellybean and that was the end of the nice chrome body styles. My favourite Lincoln is the 1960 loaded, AC etc. That's a big car with lot of chrome and drives like you're on a cloud, rare cars.

good job, wonderful. All old cars deserve to be saved. My best cars were a dodge monaco 1967 et an eldorado 1979. the cars of these decades, 50, 60, 70' are the america that i love. long life to it. To fight rust efficently, you can put grease everywhere : between carpet and metal, inside : doors, trunk door, rear wings; behind repaired areas and bumpers... when you cannot reach the hidden parts with paintbrush you can pour oil with an extender - to be repeated every year for oil, for grease every five years. congratulations from france.

In the late 70s I did pet sitting for a couple that had the same vintage town car. Only difference was they got it from/thru Bill Fugazy who ran his own limousine service in NYC, and their car had a larger chrome nose grill and there was the hint of a spare tire mold in the trunk metal. It was also mauve; looked nice enough, but I prefer the white! (And I LOVED those vent windows)! 👍

I scored a 1969 Chrysler Newort Custom, with 64000 genuine miles on it. It was imported into NZ from American Samoa, and apart from some rust below the rear screen, it was solid. We'd gone to buy a Toyota Starlet for my partner, and this was parked up behind the house. It was the father's car, but he'd passed away. Nobody would drive it, as it was HUGE and LHD. Paid $2500 for it, and it was neat - 383, with a shitty 2 BBL Carter carb, but it was still pretty fast, once it was rolling. I loved the insane body roll... Business issues forced me to sell it, and I still miss it. MASSIVE trunk, and pillarless hardtop. Neat car.

had a 1978 model same color combo. very vacuum dependant you will enjoy it much more if you replace not eliminate vacuum lines. supply both juice cans on inner fenders. if you have done it all correctly the headlights will stay closed overnight, and all of the auto heat and cool will respond properly. Block off egr mine constantly threw carbon chunks and caused the car to die. I really think you have an actual mileage car. enjoy it

My 1976 lincohn town car has been the best so far!! Real trunk space that we can stock up on a years worth of groceries at 1 time. We can replace parts,real metal and chrome bumpers that say, 'get out the way'! The vehicle manufactures need to get their heads out of their butts and make the classic cars again!!

Also a tip for videos- I don't know if you have a second cam or not, but when doing first starts, people like to see a shot of the exhaust to see a) what debris and detritus comes shooting out, and b) how smoky it is on first start up. Man, what an awesome car. You can tell that somebody HATES CARS when they won't even replace a fan belt. Either that or they hated that one and wanted a new one. That's the first one I've ever seen with a 400. White on white with red carpet. You KNOW the first owner wore white leather shoes when they went out for a drive. Keep doing what you're doing!

I always think, when rescuing these cars, "Hey this car was once new, wonder what ever happened to the original owner?" Cool to think about. Maybe the 400 was ordered because of the late 70's gas crisis. (As if it would get much better milage anyways lol.) I do like the color scheme. We will keep on rescuing them captian🤘😀

I have my grandmothers Lincoln continental, same exact car except it’s silver, with red interior, and no opera windows. It’s a true survivor car, and is 99% mint. I’ll say two things that make your car unbelievable to me. 1) When I was a kid, I remember we took the car out to dinner, and it blew a radiator hose. We had steam all over the place. 2) This one is a unbelievable coincidence, my Lincoln has the same exact triple A bumper sticker, in nearly the same place on the rear bumper.

@@SwedeMachine I also approve of your white vinegar cleaner, 303 products, and ozone machine, all of which I use on my "abandoned" and regular cars. I switched to battery powered leaf blowers because my wife complained the cars interiors would smell like 2 stroke exhaust. One note of caution, the ozone can yellow certain white plastic interior pieces, especially little knob or switch indicators and dash markings/labels, so I've learned to circulate the air with a fan and/or put the generator in the furthest spot from the dash.

No matter how many times I've seen it, it just amazes me that people will park a perfectly good car and let it rot over a problem that can be fixed in less than an hour for less than $20. That car is still solid after sitting for all those years, so it must have been a really nice car when it was running. I had a neighbor that let a '67 Cougar with 44K miles on it sit in her driveway for 40 years because her son didn't want it and she couldn't drive a stick. I tried to buy it from her for years, and she eventually sold it to a guy I knew for $100 a few years ago. At least I got to work it a little bit. He had to put about $4500 in parts in it, but it was capable of being a daily driver in less than 6 months. Stuff like that just shocks me. At least she had the windows covered and the interior was good.

@@SwedeMachine The sad thing is that I have an even crazier story than that one. I know another guy that has a 2016 Charger with 1500 miles on it, and a 65 Mustang that have been sitting for five years now. He owns four vehicles, but only has a one car garage. He always kept the Mustang in the garage until he bought the Charger. The Mustang was a work in progress, so he decided to keep the new car out of the weather, and always parked the Mustang right outside the garage door, and put his other vehicles behind the Mustang. Anyway, he went outside one morning and the Mustang wouldn't start. He has other vehicles, so he just moved on with life and never even attempted to diagnose it. The Mustang probably just had a dead battery, and the brand new Charger is sitting and rotting in the garage simply because the Mustang is blocking it in.

That is so disgusting. I know people can move on with other interests, but sheesh give a classic a little respect. A newer car can sit outside for years. Oh well. That's why I started this channel. Too many old iron out there rotting that can get going again without much fuss. Don't get me wrong we will have some challenging rescues in the future but im glad I started the venture👍. Lemon dishwash liquid, diluted, is excellent for maintaining vinyl upholstery, convertible(plastic) tops, and, above all, plastic rear windows in convertible tops. This conditions plastics, and keeps them supple!

You do that Wixom iron a fine service by resurrecting it ! Too bad Ford got caught with their pants Down like G.M. ( don't get me started on the Olds " 260 " ) and tried to bring the Cleveland block into the E385 family. And they applied that abortion into every model line. My friends' '77 TC is a work of art with the 460 & C6 special valve body. ( firmer shifts ) has the deep crimson paint and drives like and Xmas day float. And vacuum headaches galore. ( door locks & headlight doors ) Keep a spool of vacuum hose handy and replace as you go ! Cheers and good job.

ADVICE. Dont worry about the lower compression in those two cylinders, at least not for the first 200 miles. When an engine sits for even one year (especially outdoors), Valves stick in valve guides, and even though they are opening and closing on that engine, they can still not completely close. Ive dealt with this on many parked cars over the decades. They also will not always tap, because its only a small amount they are staying open. Let the valve guides loosen up

My dad had a 79 Lincoln towncar 400m C-6 engine and transmisdion both were untouched until around 375k dad bought it in 1980 and when he died in 1991 it had 545k on it i put another 20 or so on it before i parked it so it was showning arpund 565 to 570k miles and still ran like a new one it was white with blue top and interior.....cant beat them old land yachts...he was a bail bondsman ...we nicknamed the car walking tall.....daddy was 6'7'
