So glad you took Lumpy to the Vet. I kind of felt bad for him because he was so anxious. When he threw himself against the trailer walls I was afraid he would rupture his hernia. But he came out fine and it's good to find out "the rest of the story" about his lump. Everyone knows that you all will take good care of him just like you do the other bison! Thanks for sharing the news in a timely manner! Take care of yourself, Dusty!

Surgery on this huge lump is bad enough, but to consider for a bison sounds very sketchy! They are so powerful and do lots of ramming and I believe it would never work on such a huge area. Mesh also cause infections! In humans too! I think Lumpy is best off "as is". for as long as he stays happy, eats and lives a good bison life! If it weren't for Dusty I don't think there would be Lumpy. He would have gone to the happy hunting grounds long ago and we know he prefers to hang out with Big Joe and Dunbar plus the girls. The way he jumped around in that wagon ....I think he could do his thing with a bison girl and produce a little Lumpy without a lump! So Dusty....let him be and don't worry about him... :)

It puts your mind and everyone at ease that he'll be fine as long as you said he's still eating and thriving. Certainly was a learning/teaching moment for all the students at your old school. 😀 They got a nice treat/experience to see a bison and learn from it and possibly have some comparison / differences with cattle and bison. You are doing a great job with Lumpy and all the bison you have on the farm.
