My first car in 1965 was a 1949 MG TC. Like this one she was red. She also was one on a handful which was exported to the USA by the factory. The car identification plaque mount in the engine bay after the car's number states EXP which designates she was a factory export. I owned her in Southern California and paid the pocket busting (for me at the time) $1,200. I am forever grateful to Pete Clark who saw a raw and inexperienced lad, took him under his wing, and not only sold him the car but let him make payments. I've own a bunch of sports cars since then including Porsches, Jaguars and Ferraris, but none on them have the same place in my heart as my TC.

Buying it is the start of a great adventure. Just finished my one and took over 18months. So be papered for a marathon not a sprint. Just do one part at a time , brakes, engine , body work. . And keep every thing, every nut and bolt no mater what condition, to be reused or for reference . Good luck and welcome to the club.

Enjoy the process. I have a 52 TD that I’m doing a frame off restoration at the moment. These cars are great!

Wonderful film. Great adventure that I know too well. While I have never owned or driven a MGTC I have owned and driven several MGTDs, MGTFs and MGAs. I am 70 now but hope there is a MGTC in my not too distant future. Thanks guys. Guy in Columbia Mississippi

I am very jealous. The TC has been my dream car since 1975. Also jealous as i used to live pretty close to Antioch for 39 years. So close but so far. Currently own a 69 TR6 that I've bought in Davis CA in 1991.

I would trade the TR6 for a TC in a New York Minute.

Daniel "the Copilot" reminds me of Goose, Maverick's backseater from Top Gun. Also reminds me of some copilots I flew with. Great first start! Suspect many will follow from your appearance on Jay Leno's Garage.

I realized a life-long dream of owning a TC a few years ago and a year later I was sooooo glad to sell it. You really have to want the 1930's driving experience that goes along with the outrageously good looks. Or else just look at one. Driving an S2000 and a '61 Mini, and looking at someone else's MG TC, is the way I now approach it.

Dudes! I'm a dinosaur and fell in love with the (red) sports cars of the 50s and 60s. I'd l9ve to see the TC running again, soon! (my current ride is a 2000 BMW M Roadster, the closest I could come to a AH MarkIII in this millennium) BTW- GREAT vids!

My mom had a what she said was TD but she also said it was a '48.I don't what it was. If it was a '48 she would have been 18, I don't know how she got it. '48 was the year she graduated from Berkeley High School and I down't see my frugal Dutch grandfather buying it for her graduation gift. Maybe he did but my mom never said that, I think because myself and my siblings would have pestered her for a car for graduation. She said the clock burned out driving iy home from the dealership I asked if she took it back but she did not. She drove it around the Bay Area for a few years, going to sport car races in Golden Gate Park. I have her 8mm movie footage she took back then. Jags and MGs and Porsches crashing into hay bales!!! But they were new cars back then, easily repaired. At one point it was stolen in Berkeley Hills, rolled over and left running. The oil leaked out and seized the engine. The mechanic she went to put many of the burned out parts back in the engine when he rebuilt it. Needless to say it ran like shit. She sold it and bought a Porsche of the era but I don't know what model that would be. Nice video, very informative.

This will make your MGA seem fantastically refined. (Do you know how to "Stop Up" All of those annoying leaks on a British "stiff upper lip" convertible top? Hire your local swimming pool contractor to place a 4-inch layer of Gunnit {TM} between the passenger comp't, and those Menacing Clouds.)

@@jeffhildreth9244 You've never owned a Honda air cooled inline twin motorcycle from the 1980's. Sexy spoked wheels and superior to the TC in every way. Instead of day dreaming of a 40K ,000 TC I could never afford, I bought a cherry mint 2008 Honda Shadow Spirit as my third motorcycle for 1,900 or 1/20th the cost of a TC.
