Déjà Vu is the first rescued baby in Sydney this season, fully 3 weeks earlier than the babies usually come in. It was called in as a microbat, but I phoned the MOP (member of public) to ask the size, and he sent me a pic so the baby flying-fox, the first of the season, was all mine.
She's a Grey-Headed Flying-Fox. I named her Déjà Vu because I had a strong sense of Déjà Vu about heading into my 15th baby season.
Given that everything has been dying for so long, I decided to wait a few days before announcing her rescue. It's 10 days later now, and she's doing really well - I have moved her along to another carer but don't worry - I have some videos of her with Maggie and being a baby with me for a while. She's a total delight with a strong suck and coordinated sucking and swallowing. She just needs to be slowed down a bit otherwise she guzzles it and regurgitates.
She doesn't appear to have any injuries at all.
YAY, a survivor.
