Take care when chipping and cutting concrete out of the engine bay, concrete dust can give you silicosis of the lungs and kill you. Wear eye, ear and lung PPE. Also use a hammer drill to drill a series of holes in the concrete to help cut it into chunks rather than just chiselling it with a jack hammer.

@@bugler75 Most of the tanks and armour the Russians own are in about a good a state and ready for a fight as the shedful of heavy metal seen above and a lot of the old Soviet tank park the Russian Federation inherited after the Cold War ended has been sent to the scrappers. The sad news is that even functional armoured vehicles like tanks are what the flyboys call "targets" these days. They're difficult to hide on a modern battlefield and today the motto of a well-equipped military is "If you can be seen, you will be killed". Green paint and rust don't make them stealthy.
@markfryer98802 жыл бұрын
@@robertsneddon731 Flyboys are also prone to exaggeration! Keeping some old tanks around as expendable decoys can't hurt can it. It would make your enemies waste more bombs or missiles.
@bugler752 жыл бұрын
@@robertsneddon731 Youre 100% correct. I was AntiTanks all of my service (1988 to 2015) and it was interesting to see how attitudes towards armour threat changed over the years. I do remember when the 3rd Shock Army rolling over Westphalia was the greatest threat the idea of engaging KV-1’s and T-35’s was laughable. These tank parks were a way of giving the colossal conscript army something to do (‘maintenance’) and Generals ‘numbers’ to play with. Getting these hulks even near a battlefield would have been nearly impossible. However, NATO ´s idea of reinforcing Germany was also quite a stretch too! Aircraft remain the greatest threat to armour but are hindered by cost, lack of aircraft, required for other missions, loiter time etc. An Anti Tank platoon armed with Javelin can stop an armoured brigade by itself but vital intelligence and pre planning to create the anti tank screen is essential. Compared to the days of my first NCOs, who prior to MILAN were using the WOMBAT gun and have a life expectancy of one round that may or may not have penetrated ! Hopefully we’ll never find out but with the sword rattling over Ukraine and Taiwan we’ll never know. Thankfully I’m retired and so medically downgraded that the wife keeps the undertaker on speed dial !
@robertsneddon7312 жыл бұрын
@@markfryer9880 The superiority of air over armour was signalled during the Iraq war in 2003 when American F-111 two-seater bombers racked up 1600 kills of Iraqi armour, personnel carriers, trucks, fuel bowsers etc. They bombed their targets from 40,000 feet at night using infra-red cameras to find the laagered-up columns of AFVs (cold at night, nice hot engines from running all day) then illuminated them with lasers and dropped 500lb LJDAMs on them. Death from above and the poor Iraqis didn't even know the Aardvarks were up there until it was too late. As for the flyboys exaggerating, the F-111s brought back videotape to prove their attacks hit their targets, unlike Ubique and AFVs whose billets d'amour are typically addressed "To whom it may concern". That was twenty years ago, armour hasn't improved much since then but attack aircraft have advanced at least a generation in that time making the planes, their sensors and their weapons even more deadly and armour even less likely to survive in a war against a competent enemy with command of the air.
