ikr..... But Russia and America were just able to out mass-produce them by numbers that were just out of sight. True, Germany was able to about make 25,000 Panzerkampfwagen IVs, but Russia and America more than eclipsed that. But sure, I agree. The German war machine was a force to be reckoned with.
@deplorablelibertarian Жыл бұрын
The best tank of WWII, the russian T-34, was also started the same exact way. Electric starters weren’t that powerful in those days. Shit, when it was cold, tank crews drained the oil and warmed it by fire…that way it was easier to start.
@rodhayes7777 Жыл бұрын
@@deplorablelibertarian Yes. I like theirs too. My favorite T-34 is the model 1941 T-34/76 in either the welded or cast turret. That thing's nifty. I also like my own country's Sherman and M-48 Patton. Love the Sherman Firefly also. Thanks for the input.
@matthewmiller1101 Жыл бұрын
@@deplorablelibertarianI wouldn’t say that the t34 was the best tank of ww2 the best heavy tank was definitely the is2 but the best tank was probably just the classic Sherman it was reliable and could fit many roles

The German tanks were okay at best. Yes, the Tiger was good, but not much else. Yes I do hold this view for most tanks in WW2. The only other good tank there was in my eyes were the Sherman's and variants, and maybe the British crusader and Cromwell. Everything else was crap or just okay. Though my favourite tank is absolutely the Panzer II. Literally just because it's small and fast.

Panthers are the most beautiful of these rare beasts. The engineering is another level apart from the final drive. The French adopted the Panther post WW2 and gave probably the the most honest assessment of it. The final drive was prone to breaking if the driver put it under unnecessary duress so in the final months of the war novice drivers probaly accounted for a huge amount of them being abandoned to the enemy. Love German AFVs across the board but many were way too complicated for mass production under wartime conditions.

The PzKpfw V Panther remains controversial today as touted as the best tank to come out of WW2. Certainly the Americans with their late-war M26 Pershing and the British with their late-war Challenger tanks will contest that. Still, the Panther remains admired for its pleasing external design aesthetics, even though tanks were not meant to be manmade objects of beauty. Nonetheless, despite objections from M26 Pershing and Challenger advocates, the Mark V Panther entered combat service in late 1942 and went through three iterations to correct or improve its early technical faults, bugs, and shortcomings. Many were corrected by the third Mark (Ausfahrung) in 1944 but lingering maintenance problems still plagued the Panther. Had the Panther possessed the mechanical reliability of the M4 Sherman, certainly it might have taken the award for best WW2 tank design hands down. The Panther thus saw extensive combat service unlike the Pershing and Challenger. If anything proved to be the Panther's greatest drawback was its low production numbers, around 6,000 units. The Panther, in possible much greater numbers along with more Tiger I tanks, would have given the Allies and the Soviets greater trouble and possibly prolonged the war. As it was, the German Army already possessed the capable, reliable PzKpfw IV, the direct counterpart to the M4 Sherman, but was not able to produce the massive numbers truly needed. The Allies, especially the U.S. and the USSR, outproduced the Germans.

They never show the most intimidating parts of the German tanks....the optics, cannon rounds, etc...I once read an article of an American tank crew during WWII that had an opportunity to examine an abandoned Panzer; the commander ordered one of the crew to go inside the panzer and check it out. He came back after awhile and just sat there...stunned. The American tank commander asked him what he saw, but the crewman could hardly speak. Finally he said "I quit, I wanna go home". He went on to describe the unbelievable superiority of the Panzers gun optics 😂....he said they can see us clearly at over a thousand yards, they can place their rounds precisely where they want them far beyond what we can, we are so overmatched, I just wanna go home.
