Rescuing an Open-air Bee Nest

Rescuing a big fat bee nest 26 feet up before it comes crashing down.
How do you remove a huge bee nest 26 feet off the ground? Simple. Chop, drop and shake. Find the queen, frame up the brood and get them into a new beehive box.
Open-air nests are uncommon in our region and often succumb to the elements. If they survive for long, they usually enclose the comb at the top of the nest to form a barrier to rain and can thrive.
A booming open-air nest can quickly become a victim of their success. As the nectar flows in and is converted to honeycomb, the weight of a nest can snap the very branches it is attached to, causing a catastrophic crash to the ground. There tend to be some very unhappy bees if this happens!

I noticed that these bees are very calm and don't attack, i work with bees in Suriname(South America). These bees can't be handled without putting on full protection. I'd like to visit one day

@@HinterlandBees I’m still painting and putting them together, but I see that they are very similar to the Lyson 8/9 frame hives, without that thinned out area on the box - so the R value is a lot better. The boxes are actually interchangeable. I just overwintered a colony in the Lyson hive, and they seemed very content in there, so I think these will work our very well. The bottom board and entrance reducer are really nice, and the lid too- super heavy. The plastic strips are better quality than the Lyson, but I just wish we could get the option to get them in black or white as well as the yellow

@@zulikkowalski3547 it think you’ll love them. I paint the yellow plastic mouldings that are exposed to the outside, mainly to prevent UV damage, even though it’s not necessary according to HiveIQ
