Thin sugar syrup sprayed on a swarm acts as a distraction, slowing them down a little and stopping some of them from taking flight. This helps me to look for the queen. If the scouts are excited and the swarm is on the verge of taking off, the spray also buys me some extra time. Water can be used instead, but sugar syrup works better. 😁🙏

Hello, tell me, do you use some kind of special vacuum cleaner? Do bees survive in a vacuum cleaner? Can they be moved to the hive later? Or not?

Swarms are generally quite docile. Bees are not naturally aggressive but rather are defensive of their nest. Because a swarm has no nest, is effectively homeless, the bees are unlikely to want to sting anyone without provocation. If you know what you are doing and they are handled gently, they usually pose little risk.

Thank you for caring about bees. You have misinterpreted our post. Perhaps you should follow us and learn more about bees and what we do to save them. 🐝 We rescue over 150 colonies annually, many of which would otherwise be poisoned by pest controllers. 🐝 We have planted a pollinator-friendly forest of over 11,000 trees to support these bees and other pollinators. 🐝 We are fascinated by bees, and it is of utmost importance to us that we treat our bees gently and with the respect they deserve. 🐝 It’s easy to jump to conclusions, but a short video can never tell the whole story. 🐝 We prefer to 🐝 curious rather than judgemental 😁

When handled with care, bees typically respond with gentleness. It’s important to avoid causing them stress, as any squeezing or squashing may result in a sting. To reduce the risk, I sometimes used a small amount of smoke to mask their alarm pheromone, which could otherwise signal a threat, triggering other bees to sting in defence of the hive.

I always find and cage the queen for at least three days while the rest of the colony settles into their new home; this guarantees that the swarm will not abscond. After shaking the whole swarm onto a sheet in front of the beehive, they will naturally start to march inside (regardless of whether the queen is there or not). As they spread out, it makes it easier to look for the queen. Catch the queen, and you catch the swarm.
