The Cichlids are most likely from your aviary pond, from before you made the flood block barrier, when it flooded smaller fish can fit through the fence mesh, out into the paddock, when the water dropped, ended in the "tar-pit".

That's funny. Last year in January, I found a newborn, the size of a qurter, common snapper on a parking lot with consistent 30 to 40 degree Temps in Pennsylvania. I never thought he would make it. But he did and is now tip of head to the tip of his tail is about 15 inches, the shell is about 8 inches long 6 inches wide. I named him Jack for Jack Frost. He is so tame. He has never tried to bite. He is comical as hell. Wish I could share his pics.
