I'm shocked the conservation officer doesn't know his laws. Technically any invasive fish you may catch cannot be transported alive/ to another body of water/ nor released in the body of water you took them from. As for the bluegil, some states recognize them as a game fish, here in kansas where I live they aren't recognized as such. Here blueGil can be taken any way other bait fish can be caught they're also one of the only species you're allowed to release or fish with alive in a separate water way. We don't have as many invasive or introduced species as you guys but laws about them are set in place for a reason. I understand the not wanting the fish to die but in the grand picture, the fish in that puddle aren't putting a dent in the abundant population you have there, however moving them to another water way just gives them a chance to breed and wipe out whatever game fish are present and we all know how Florida be struggling keeping the native wildlife safe. Just somthing to think about guys. Have fun and I don't blame you for wanting to save them its just the way it is.

I give Nick props for wanting to do the right thing and yet it is clear that he is not familiar with the Florida wildlife laws but it's wrong of you to purposely try to have him arrested also. @@ghostsquad410 .. special needs means absolutely nothing with you not being a Florida resident therefore you do not know our laws here period to even tell him he does not need a license that is why I jumped your case because obviously you yourself do not know the laws and yes he needs a license for the activity he was involved in and I highly doubt he known the laws here prior. Many unfortunately do not know fwc laws here. I am certified by the f.d.l.e. Florida department of law enforcement sponsored through the Manatee county sheriff's office out of Bradenton Florida so I am a bit more knowledgeable than the average Florida resident and I know he needs a license for the activity he was doing but he had good intentions so therefore he got off on a break. He was not meaning harm at all but using a gill net such as a castnet is a federal law also. Only certain licenses would protect him. For you to bring up "special needs" is not something you will get a sympathy pity party from me when you obviously tried to state something not true that could have somebody Arrested. Special needs or not, does not matter, you were clearly wrongful for suggesting something you have no knowledge about to begin with. It's not your money that would pay for him being bonded out nor isit your money that would pay his legal fees either. Nor is it your money that would get it off his permanent criminal record if he is arrested. Do you even realize if fwc does a arrest, they can go to his home and literally take all his animals? All while giving him fines for each I bet you don't? I think it is very clear why I jumped your case with good reason too. It is not against the law to correct you either. I meant what I said. You should respect people instead of giving them bad advise. Stick with laws you know in your own state or region is my suggestion instead of purposely trying to have someone Arrested is all. Sorry for being blunt and straight forward. As for me not knowing what takes place behind the scenes in Florida law enforcement, I beg to differ as I Arrested several hundred in my 15 years here but like they gave him a break being that he did not have bad intentions I do this also near daily. Not all people are bad. If anything Nick had a heart here trying to do what was right.
@andrewmahoney5713 жыл бұрын
The proper way to of handled this situation was to get in contact with fish and wildlife first. Make this an operation. The officers saw them catching and keeping game fish with a cast net. Know your laws before going out and doing stuff. And to relocate invasive species to the area is way worse than letting them die off (especially the pleco, who is actually causing massive problems with local wildlife like the manatees). I'm a huge fish enthusiast myself and the general idea they were going for was for good. But make sure you know what you're doing before you do it

It is in the hand book of their natural regulation when they purchase their license that it is illegal to transport invasive species and in many places illegal to use cast nets. He can't sue them for anything. The if you are caught doing illegal things your stuff will get confiscated. Simple as that.

it was the cast net. You cant catch gamefish (bluegill are considered gamefish) with a cast net in florida, just non-gamefish like suckers, shad, pinfish etc.. When you kept the bluegills you screwed yourself. the plecos were legal to keep though, so if they charge you for the plecos you'll have to make it known that they're nongame. the poaching charge will still stick.

It seems that you have a lack of knowledge on the subject and haven’t put in any research at all into the situation either, or you would see that those are non-native invasive species that this moron is trying to save by putting them in another body of water. This is extremely damaging to the natural ecosystems in Florida
@renmerc35653 жыл бұрын
He explain he was taking the fish into a private body of water he had no malice intent, it could have been handled a bit better, they didn’t have to be so abrasive.
@ShapedLikeYou2 жыл бұрын
@@renmerc3565 Well, allow me to put something out there. First of all, it doesn't actually look like these fish were quite "stuck" in this ditch. This is a full-fledge man-made body of water, as the pipe connecting to it proves. After a little bit or research, I figured out that there also happened to be a drought during when this video was made (See: Spring Drought, March-May, 2021). And well, these Bluegill he caught don't look like their dying. The dead pleco he showed at the beginning of the video; Pleco are an adaptable fish. However, most pleco are herbivorous, and this body of water doesn't have plants nor algae. Bluegills, on the other hand, can survive on zooplankton, which survives on phytoplankton, which gain energy from the sun. And considering their was a drought, the sun would've been out for most of the day. It's all starting to add up, correct? Florida's conservation law states that not only can you not move invasive species into a different body of water alive, but you also can't posses them illegally. He caught them with a cast net, which is definitely "illegally possessing" them. So he is pretty much in the wrong here, no matter how anyone tries to frame it Sorry about the paragraph, I just naturally write really long bodies of writing to express myself

1. The Pleco is an invasive species - Originally comes from South America so he was right on that one. 2. You are allowed to release them in your own private body of water that’s not connected to any lakes, rivers or streams and as long as they can be contained in that body of water without escaping and invading other public/natural bodies of water where they disrupt the natural ecosystem - You were right on that one

U cant spread invasive species around . Makes no sense to release them and thats one of if not main reason he was in trouble taking the net was just a jab cause he got an attitude when he couldn't understand the cops point . Those native fish have died in the those drying pools forever its part of food chain and life cycle those species can handle it . The invasive fish should be left to die , if u release invasives they compete and kill native species which messes with the entire ecosystem. To many channels like this spreading and promoting the wrong info

I wouldn't be surprised if these "FWC" guys hang out in this specific location abusing their powers to anyone who tries to save them. This puts it into perspective with the likelihood that there's also people going here with the wrong intentions, but either way it shows how dumb the whole situation is.
