Molly has still not been adopted and we have a lot of failed or flaked out applications so the adoption rate has slowed down. I work in a small pet shop ( nO petsmart or petco, we take great care of our animals ) more so a rescue, we also take in animals depending the situation- and recently we took in a female Syrian and she’s GORGEOUS. she’s white with grey spots and ruby red eyes. I would love to have her but then I saw an ad- someone housing two Syrians in a critter trail and of course, us rescuers, have to think about the hamsters in need first. This gorgeous hamster has the option to find an amazing home and is in a way better setup vs these ones on the ad who need urgent care. Also- I am currently looking to purchase some storage racks for my little rescues - they really do work great!
@chloepeters58916 жыл бұрын
This may seem odd but do you think that black and white hamsters may be genetically predisposed to weight issues? Two of my rescues that are this colour have been very over weight, even whilst on the same diet as my hamsters that are a normal weight. I may sound stupid but just thought it was interesting x
@MunchiesPlace6 жыл бұрын
It's weird how you brought that up. Cause my last black and white hamster did have organ failure from what the vets said and she was a heavy gal. But I think just in general pet store hamsters are always going to be prone to extremely bad genetics.
@chloepeters58916 жыл бұрын
Munchie's Place Most likely, yes. It’s just so strange! Especially when my other rescues (presumably pet shop bred) have had almost no weight issues

This is very interesting! I’m in a few hamster rescue groups and I’ve seen this topic pop up before. Black or brown banded Syrians (especially females) trend to be much bigger than other colourations, despite a good diet and access to exercise. I wish there was more research in this area. It’s definitely something to do with genetics

Loved the video. I'm on my 3rd Syrian and he's by far the most active and funny one. At 2 months, they have a ton of energy . I bought him at a Petland store but I feel like it was a rescue because the conditions are not great for them there. Of course, he had no wheel or sand bath. I saw him take his first sand bath not long after he was put into his new duplex and it was SO cute. Poor thing must have been feeling mighty dirty. It's just sad that they have such a short lifespan.

I had that cage for my hamster as a travel cage because my hamster was a fat but short hamster so the 6.5 inch wheel was great for overnight things, as well as the food bowl, water bottle, and Aspen bedding that came with. It was fairly cheap and had some nice stuff that came with it so I bought it for a travel cage. Dont worry my hamsters actual cage is a large bin.

These rescue vids are so feel good and satisfying. Sidenote: do you have any tips for starting to rescue animals because I am very interested and want to help all sorts of animals.
@MunchiesPlace6 жыл бұрын
Start with looking into fostering at your local shelter or shelters who take in surrendered small animals, but don't have the resources or fosters to help out. That's a great place to start. Otherwise everything will come out of pocket if you go solo. And going solo is time consuming and expensive. Starting off around people who've been rescuing or fostering for a long time will help you build up an understanding of how to rescue. :)

Hey munchie !!!!! What would you recommend for a beginner?? I was thinking of a storage container with the bars 😁 I WAS going to get the tiny tales rocket cage but I watched your video and said ok not gonna get that so ya
@np80364 жыл бұрын
So don't buy cedar bedding, and fluffy nesting material, they're bad, and if you're on a budget, you can make DIY bin cage, (you can watch Muncie's or Victoria Raechel's videos to know how to do it) and if not, you can have an aquarium enclosure (the minimum size is 450 sq inches, but people recommend much more) wheels with bars are not good either For food you have to get high variety, the protein content has to be around 17-19%, the fiber has to be 6-15%, and the fat content has to be 4-7% Generally dwarf hamsters are agressive towards each other, so please don't put in cagemates the same gender And also for food, they eat like two large spoons (idk what they are called) They need sandbaths, but don't use dust, but chincilla sand or heat treated childrens playsand (if is it not heat treated, then put it in the oven for a while, also please sift the playsand) They can have rodent drinking bottles, but drinking trays are better, because they can't hold much water, so you can change it once a day, and they're much more sanitary Also put in a wariety of chew toys in the cage, so it can wear down it's teeth And put more wooden toys and accesories and hides in it, if you don't already, hamsters like tunnels, so put in a wooden, plastic, or toilet paper roll tunnel Carefresh and Clean and cozy are good paper beddings, and silent spinners and wodent wheels are great wheels, but if you have a syrian, they will need 8 to 11 inch wheels, and if their back hunches, then upgrade to a bigger wheel And check their health (Victoria Raechel's video will help you) And don't forget to give it/them lots of care and love! Sorry my english not my native language, i'm still learning it, so don't be too harsh on my writing
