I just rescued a hamster that somebody was trying to THROW IN A DUMPSTER in a garbage bag. She was overweight because she was not supplied with water, wheel, or good food. I have made her a bin cage and she is enjoying her new life. Thank you Munchie for showing me that a hamster in need can be right around the corner.

Hi Munchie. First of all, I wanted to say that I really appreciate your work and what you do for hamsters. Please, don't stop. I apologize for my English, but this is not my native language. I would like to draw your attention to a certain channel that has been abusing hamsters for a long time (they live in small containers under water, he forces them to fly drones, they do not have the right conditions, cages, food, space, toys, etc.). There are a few people who think they can "experiment" in this way on hamsters just because they are small. The most shocking are these tanks underwater (in case of failure, poor animals will drown), not to mention the unimaginable boredom, and flying in a tiny ball in a very loud drone. People support him on patreon and he treats animals like toys. I was wondering if you could hear about him and if you could do anything in this situation. The channel is called "I Chose Hampture"

I don't get people that put animals in small cages, I think of it like humans can live in a room just 3 times the size of their body, but that doesn't mean it's comfortable and they'll be happy. When building a cage I feel like you need to think of them as if your the animal. My cages are always at least 700sq inches. I rescued a hamster who had a tiny bin cage, the wheel was like 3 inches. Less than a cm of sawdust. It was so so horrible. She's still very nervous, but I'm hoping she feels a little happier now. All thanks to people like you munchie giving out so much awareness and advice.

I got my hamster from a small pet store. I didn't even go in expecting to buy a pet, but I had an empty tank at home and was just trying to get ideas on what I wanted. Well as I was looking at the hamsters I noticed the cage was quite big and well ventilated, but there were way too many in it. I stuck my hand in to see if any were friendly and one climbed into my hand and tried to go up my sleeve. I immediately fell in love and bought her. I noticed she had marks on her from being bullied and she is even missing part of her ear. I can't imagine she would've made it if I didn't buy her. I know it isn't good to buy from pet stores but man, it was really sad once you took a closer look at the animals and not just their enclosures.

I found one two weeks ago while at pet-smart that was left outside with a free sign on the cage. Barely any food and no water and no toys, not even a wheel at all. I ended up keeping him for a couple of weeks feeding him and he gain weight and then gave him to a friend that take care of hamsters. I would have kept him myself, but have large birds that would have attract him at some point, as I let my birds stay out while I am home, so I couldn't keep him. It is a shame that people would treat a living creature like they were garbage, or a unwanted item. Pretty much how I also found my male Umbrella Cockatoo U2 Cooper at a garage sale, but I took him to vet to get him back healthy as he had a few issues, due to last owner feed him basically sunflower seeds and had him in back of garage with little to no attention in a small cage not even suitable for a Cockatiel. He pretty much plucked most his feathers outs and had liver and other medical issue. A year later he molted his feathers back and doesn't pluck anymore and is a 100% healthy and even free flight trained him. He pretty much goes with me everywhere with me.

She looks exactly like my sweet little Valley. She had a horrible first 8 month; having to share a small bird cage with two other hamsters. They lived on dirty news papers without any hideouts, wheels or toys. I took them all for 3€ (1€ each) because the man who had them didn't want them anymore. He said I could feed them to a snake if I wanted to. Broke my heart. I'm so happy you could rescue Thin Mint.

This literally breaks my heart!! A few months ago, I rescued a neglected hamster, too. The situation was pretty similar to this one. Tiny cage, no food, even the house was so small that the hamster could barely fit in. (Dwarf hamster!!) The whole cage was covered in droppings. It was absolutely horrible!! I took her home and built a diy cage. (140×80cm) Her personality completely changed. At first she used to bite and run away as soon as i put my hand in her cage to change the water dish. Now she's so happy and loves crawling on my hand looking for food :)

My mom doesn’t understand that dwarf hamsters need more than 2 critter trails. “It’s so tiny, it has plenty of room!” Jesus christ I hate her sometimes. She also hated the way our ferrets smell so she has us put a chemical in their water that’s ‘veterinarian reccomended’ and the smell ‘goes away’

Girl I just rescued 30 hamsters in eight cages and the inside of their cages look IDENTICAL to that. All feces and old seed shells. The people I rescued them from were extremely mentally ill. They had 50+ hamsters (another girl took 17 two days before I took the 30), three rabbits and two gerbils in a small apartment. There were cockroaches coming out of the cat carriers the rabbits were living in.

So my teacher got a class pet this year which was a hamster let alone a Syrian hamster and she got a crapy cage from petco. I was ranting to my friends how small the cage was and how much I hated. And about a week in she escaped for 2 weeks I eventually found her. But then I decided to tell her the cage was way to small but she really didn’t care. So I used 200$ of my own money to buy the hamster a 50 gallon tank and a 10 inch wheel with so much stuff like toys hides different beddings chew toys and so much more and u can see such a major difference in her actions. I’m so happy I did that even though my teacher was kind of mad that I brought a gigantic tank but I really didn’t care.

I would like to thank you for multiple reasons. The first is rescuing this hamster, as the care was horrendous. You’ve also helped this previous owner out(by no mean am I defending this neglect) by taking thin mint off of this person. I’ve been in a place of having a mental condition that impaired my everyday life 4 years ago, and although I am much better and care for my hamster (who I recently got now I’m much better)well I know it can be difficult to even function in a bad mental state. Again, the care of thin mint was unacceptable and I am in no means defending how she was cared for, but I want to thank you for not criticising the owner themselves but the condition of the housing, as it should be criticised. But in general, you are an amazing human being for fostering all of these animals

@silvermoon29994 жыл бұрын
for the critter Nation you're better off getting two singles instead of getting one double because you can connect the two singles horizontally instead of vertically because hamsters don't need very much hight they need lots of room to run, also for the critter nation you might need to put hardware cloth over the bars as your hammy may or may not be able to squeeze through the bars. Hope I could help! 😁

I don't know if any one cares but here's a story about my rabbit.... Recently one of our female rabbits passed away and we needed a companion for her as it was winter and they needed to keep warm. We were looking in the pets at home adoption bit but only found pairs. So we did look over at the ones to buy. There was a large grey rabbit older than the others so We asked the employees if we could buy him. They went into the back and checked him over and found out he wasn't neutered and he was around 2 years old. We took him home anyway but later found out someone had dumped him in there scared and frightened and left him. To this day he's still a little scared but our other rabbit has helped him gain confidence.

One of my rabbits was found as a stray and adopted, but the adopted neglected him and returned him when he had to go to collage. I have him now and he’s a little scared of being pet too much and hates being pet with two hands but my other rabbit who’s mom was brought into the spca pregnant and the baby’s (including my bun) were hand raised by humans and were the sweetest things ever. She helped him come out of his shell so so much

Petco and PetSmart price match their online website. I'd suggest starting there since you can save a ton. I have saved 50 percent on items this way. Petco and PetSmart also have a rewards program. For Petco spend 100 and get 5 dollars back of in-store purchase. PetSmart has a treats program. Spend a certain amount and your points start piling up for different in store cash. So just get a system down. Download petcos app (PetSmart doesn't have an online store app) and browse hamster food and see if it's discounted online. 👍 For PetSmart you'll have to use their desktop version. I have found just recently on same items from Petco/PetSmart that Petco was always cheaper except for one item out of 10 I was price matching. This is why I tend to shop more at Petco. I only go to PetSmart for colorful bedding and chew toys.

Oink oink Piggy I doubt she’ll do that since all the tanks bought together is about $300+ dollars. And even attached they’re not hamster okay. Plus if she returns all of them the petstores can refuse to sell any more items to her thinking she’s purposely buying things just to return them, therefore being a nuisance

Jammin Dragon that’s a good point. Even if she can’t do it I still think it’s a good video idea. But thanks for pointing that out😊. I also know that the tiny tales are not at all good for the hamsters since they are way to small and look like children’s toys. But thank you 😊

how horrible must your mental health be to leave a pet in conditions like that. I feel bad for everyone involved.

Is that a fancy hamster because, my hamster that recently passed away had a story like that, my sisters boyfriend had her in a cage from Walmart and had a 5 inch wheel and with seeds for food and I could not stand it, begged my mom to get her and they gave her to me. I gave her proper care and got her healthy food and she was up to date. RIP cali💔

In the old cage my syrian managed to open the cage door (as it was sounds loose -my fault) she then fell out the cage onto my bedroom floor!!! I’m literally nocturnal 😂 so I was awake at 1-2 am as this happened .. I got her back in and for a hamster she fell from quite the height ! Is on My desk which is pretty high up for her .. I recently upgraded to a larger cage made of wood and class? I think .. but lucky she didn’t have any injuries from it and is still happy and doing good

Do you have a video on the basics a hamster needs? Like cage, bedding etc that is safe. So i can link to people, i live in south korea and im on a rescue page but i would like to share with people proper hamster care. It would be useful if I could link a basic video or something.
