And Sony has had it since 2007. And they said it could be used on all systems. So the PS haters will have to buy a sony playstation product to use the technology. Love that even more.

Absolutely stunning. I'm clear on most of it save the end with the running man. Is he running live? like in another corner of the room with a camera on him, because it can't be a 2d film recording, right? And I still don't understand why the image isn't in color, though you get a blue image of that head. How far we've come since Ed Muybridge's running men and horses! Kudos to you all.

amazing, this is a holographic image to a certain extent. Obviously its not a true hologram, the image can only be projected on the spinning mirror, but this gets us 1 step closer! Really well done! I would love more information and your ideas for the future. PM me

This is great. It was done in 2007 though. I hope it is developed for future home use. I could even see it working on a portable device (although it would be a cube shape, and not the usual candybar/tablet we are use to).

Nope - not fake and we're very happy that our display can give the effect of occlusion. It's a light field display which shows independent views to every direction, not a volumetric display which lights up points in a volume. Our SIGGRAPH 2007 paper is online explaining it.

We only do motion tracking to produce vertical parallax; the horizontal parallax is totally autostereoscopic and the image looks very solid, 3D, and lag-free.

Cool that you noticed this! It's honest-to-goodness video of the 3D display in operation, but since the display blinks the image out every mirror rotation there is no motion blur in the 3D image while there _is_ motion blur in the rest of the scene including the bar, so it does look odd when you see them together in the video. In person, everything works (although the display does look slightly blinky.)
@gaztard15 жыл бұрын
It's only the video of it why it flickers. Like when u try to film displays and TVs before. they flickered when you watch the video back also. 4320 to 5760 fps. Crazy

It is very awesome, but there are still blind areas identified. If you look closer to the spinning mirror you see a cone like shape where I believe images can not be displayed. I believe this is referred to as dead zones. How ever still very impressive work, well done.

@Thepoliticman did you watch this to the end?
@ricochet18814 жыл бұрын
@Momo5775 It's real, the distortions are because of the camera's shutter speed (refresh rate?) and the shape of the mirror spinning if you view it at it's corners there is some distortion... it's tough to explain just take my word for it.

We have to render our 3D objects within a few inches of the display surface, but there's at least a continuous 5" cylinder of volume we can render into successfully.
@JDster4ever14 жыл бұрын
@FirestoneX well..; you can make one if you had a mirror strapped to a realy fast moter
@lordtaw12 жыл бұрын
That is due to the cameras frame rate and the "frame rate" of the display. What you see here is real, its technology is similar to those persistence of vision displays. The mirrors rotational axis is a circle. They break the circle up into pieces (lets say 1 degree) so for each degree the image is rendered for that angle and projected the instant the mirror is in the proper position. Mirror speed and projection frame rate must be in perfect sync. Laser-vector projection is very similar as well.
