Respiratory disease in rhesus macaques inoculated with SARS-CoV-2 Dang guys. I’ve found it. An outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), which is caused by a novel coronavirus (named SARS-CoV-2) and has a case fatality rate of approximately 2%, started in Wuhan (China) in December 20191,2. Following an unprecedented global spread3, the World Health Organization declared COVID-19 a pandemic on 11 March 2020. Although data on COVID-19 in humans are emerging at a steady pace, some aspects of the pathogenesis of SARS-CoV-2 can be studied in detail only in animal models, in which repeated sampling and tissue collection is possible. Here we show that SARS-CoV-2 causes a respiratory disease in rhesus macaques that lasts between 8 and 16 days. Pulmonary infiltrates, which are a hallmark of COVID-19 in humans, were visible in lung radiographs. We detected high viral loads in swabs from the nose and throat of all of the macaques, as well as in bronchoalveolar lavages; in one macaque, we observed prolonged rectal shedding. Together, the rhesus macaque recapitulates the moderate disease that has been observed in the majority of human cases of COVID-19. The establishment of the rhesus macaque as a model of COVID-19 will increase our understanding of the pathogenesis of this disease, and aid in the development and testing of medical countermeasures.

Big pharma has been torturing and testing on humans , in trials for over a hundred years in their program facility's. They offer monthly testing on certain programs and will $$pay you very very well for your participation in these studies. Many incentives to keep coming back are offered. Humans make the choice to be a part of these drug tests, where as these animals don't have a choice .

Yeah, that's a bunch of crap that they pose no risk. This is what they said on NBC... "Police also said Thursday that the monkeys were very young females weighing just 6 to 7 lbs. The company told the police that the animals were too young to carry disease, although it's unclear whether this means they are incapable of contracting disease or simply hadn't been introduced into any clinical trials." Here we go again with lies and assumptions and play on words. Not to mention, just because they hadn't been introduced to direct infectious studies doesn't mean they are not babies of mothers that have been. Science playing God again

For someone who as worked with macaques in a sanctuary/rescue facility it's very wrong to say these macaques pose no health risks. First, the majority all seem to be adults and unless they have suffered through having their teeth removed, anyone coming across one risks a savage bite. Even without teeth, macaques can be pretty dangerous due to their strength and claws especially if scared, stressed and/or hungry. These are animals who have never fended for themselves as they say they were bred in captivity, and as a animal that needs to eat many meals a day, being lose in an area with nothing natural to feed on, even if they had a clue as to what to eat and this time of year there is little growth to sustain them if they even tried eating what they find foraging. Used to having food provided by humans, once they get hungry they are liable to approach humans assuming humans will fed them. They are very smart, as proven by the fact thst they escaped, even if it was human error that left a way out for them, it's a sign that they long ago determined what was a way out and carefully watched care givers and workers for errors that allowed them freedom. They are also excellent at breaking into building and quickly figuring out how to open things like windows and doors, and that if thry encounter locks, breaking glass and wood is not beyond them. In their natural habitat they are considered pests by humans as they find ways into attics and other places through eaves and overhang and can be more destructive than raccoons in search of food. Since these were all females, and the facility breeds them for research subjects, it's highly possible one or more could be pregnant as this is the time of year that they would naturally be carrying young. One reason for macaques to be driven to escape captivity is if they are pregnant, and if any are not found, as they are superb hiders, and give birth, any males born could breed with females even as juveniles. Not only are they a huge safety concern from the risk of attacks if they are hungry and would exhibit aggressive anger at not being fed when they locate humans or smell food, locate garbage or trash, they can carry many diseases even if vaccinated and well cared for medically. Many diseases thst macaques can carry that can jump species are ones their are no vaccines for, and can often not be detected in carriers unless the disease becomes active and makes the monkey sick - and many of these diseases can be transferred to other macaques as well as other species from carriers showing no signs of illness. And some diseases don't even need direct contact as thry can be passed along through bodily fluids, urine, and feces. Macaques not only eat plants and insects, which in that area would be limited at those time of year, they will also eat flesh and have need known to survive on rodents, birds and small wildlife such as squirrels, rabbits, and even cats, and can spread some diseases to those they attack but do not kill. Macaques also can swim and are not afraid if water. There are many documented cases of macaques swimming long distances to escape being hunted and crossing wide rivers and bodies of water to go from island to island in their native habitat so being on am island is no quarantee they will not try and leave in search of food or if being hunted. Trapping especially if they are very hungry, had some successs but they not only are able to easily figure out how to get out of traps, often with outside assistance from others but quickly learn that the food is in a trap and will break a trap to get the food without getting caught. They learn quickly and will figure out if darting is used what is going on and how best to identify and avoid hunters. Capturing these 48 macaques is going to be a difficult job and thosr captured are going to be hard to contain in captivity again since they experienced freedom, even if food was limited.
