@@mattsmith4589 I understand that part. But even 20 years ago, many of the medical school research centers stopped performing animal research based on technology of computers. The supposed advantages, even back then, were able to predict drug interactions, provide simulation models of disease development etc. Many of the medical schools also said that maintaining animal labs were at a huge financial cost with minimal reward. I'm curious as to what has changed about that direction.
The monkeys may be being used for pharmaceutical testing or TBI testing (which is pretty horrific if you know what they do to give the animals TBIs). Many medical research animals are not infected with anything, but used in other (equally f*cked up) ways

So a part of me is kind of hoping that they will just be living out there in the wild now, but they said they were all female monkeys, so no hope of reproduction. (Unless they were wrong and there are in fact a few males out there, then they might have a chance.) Also this reminds me of growing up in Connecticut, there was a truck delivering monk parakeets to pet shops and there was a traffic accident and a bunch of the birds escaped so now we just have a wild monk parakeet population flying free and thriving. And it's a bit odd seeing as they are tropical birds that are native to South America, but they are doing well even in the winter months. And I always loved whenever they would visit my bird feeders and yard. Happy green chirping birds just being birds. There's videos of them too if anyone is interested in watching parakeets living in the North East. (They have been there for a few decades now and they aren't going anywhere!) Nature finds a way!

Even if they got out of their enclosures, how in the world did they manage to get out of the building? You would assume that, with this bring a lab where they do animal testing, that the security would be very tight and the facility would have locked doors. Something is amiss here. Area redidents had best start asking questions and demanding full transparency and answers.

Due to the close genetic relationship between nonhuman primates and humans, disease causing organisms are easily exchanged between them. The pathogens that can be passed from nonhuman primates to humans and vice versa include bacteria, fungi, parasites, and viruses. Because they are not infected doesn't mean they can't carry. Ongoing negligence isn't an excuse.
