Reseeding Pasture for Sheep [I HOPE THIS WAS WORTH IT]

I've watched quite a few of your videos and you've inspired me to get some sheep for the purpose of keeping grass /weeds down in my olive grove. I'm planning to go for a small breed initially to see how I like it. I've got my eye on two castrated ouessant males. Main downside is that they do are not hair sheep but their small stature is ideal to avoid that they eat too many of the olives and olive branches. Thanks for your 'real' content.

The grass you were wondering about at about timestamp 427 is tree foil grass I think. I might be wrong on that but it looks like it's at least in the same family. Nice video agree diversity in pasture is better.much love ❤️ 🙏

Trefoglio is probably three foil, which means "three leaf" in Italian so I'm guessing thats some kind of clover.

I have read about shepard feeding clover seeds to sheep so that they themselfs reseed a pasture through their manure.

Add alil extra seed, get that machine that plugs out soil and add more topsoil.

Can flush goats or sheep without feedinf them gain, can you feed them alfalfa

nice vid. I have a question for ya...if you don't mind. with your pasture do you go out and clean some areas that the sheep lay in ? we have a 60 sqfoot area pasture for now and find they tend to stick to the shorter grass area and the tall grass/weed area gets some traffic. only have 3 sheep. not sure if we want them laying in the poop areas so we scoop it up in the shorter areas. thanks for your input

With a pasture that small I would for sure clean it. You said 60 square feet, did you mean 600 or 6000? 60 square feet sounds too small to have sheep and tall grass like you're mentioning. I would clean out their area, and maybe even consider fencing it off with an electric fence to get something to grow back. Go out with a mower and now down tall grass and weeds to create grass your sheep will eat. If it's shady there, that could become their new hangout. Although, mine do prefer dirty dry areas, so I understand what you're going through.

@@homesteadingwithPJ wow..sorry for that....4000 sqfeet. not sure why it shows 60 , was in a rush while typing..sorry. we will be adding another grazing area shortly and having someone come in and mow down the tall weeds , maybe adding 20, 000 squarefeet area and section it off

@@tazzharm I figured something was off with the 60 square feet. haha. Sounds like you have a good plan. In the end, even on small lots, moving sheep is best for them and the grass. If you're able to add another 20,000 square feet, you'll be in good shape.
